I just received a note from Bob Cochran that Marion Jones, one of the elders of the Sartin Methodology passed away 3 weeks ago in San Diego. Marion's insights as a horse player can be heard and read over many of the earlier Follow Ups and audios and videos in the Sartin Library - a humorous but plain spoken gentleman. Many of the senior members in the Methodology will remember Marion. I met him once in Las Vegas in the early 90s - he impressed me with his warmth and sincerity.

A gentleman and class act.

Sorry to read this. I know Bob Cochran had a chapter dedicated to Marion in a Work Horse Pro manual I had many years ago. I understand his work on turf racing was first class.

May he RIP

I remember Marion from the paceline tapes. He had many interesting insights into pace handicapping. After all these years one of my favorites was the early horse who had the lowest median energy in the field. These horses are very formidable contenders. I even remember the example he gave which was a stakes winning grass horse named Journalism.
