Welcome

First and foremost I want to thank Ted for once again giving us all
here at Pace and Cap, So many powerful tools. We most likely all are users in some form or another of Dr Howard Sartin's methodology.
I have been successful using just about every program and phase of the methodology.
I feel in love with phase 1 AFTER reading Pace Makes The Race
I only read the book because I saw it mentioned in the follow up
and I saw the TPR numbers in a few of my classic Sartin Programs
like Entropy.
I learned so much from PMTR. I learned how the Early and Late pace ratings
were made, and when combined gave a total pace rating
or TPR.
For many years I saw the value of the Early/Late graph
on PL$ , Synthesis and all the programs in the Validator era
and of course RDSS.
It was from the book PMTR that I started to see why I was getting
somuch from this one screen,
Over the years Ted has updated and improved the TPR screen
on RDSS to now its almost like its own phase 1 program.
I have a few more ideas for Ted about some "wish" items
and If its possible, then Ted will find a way .

Off we go .
Welcome to Pace Makes The Race

Hi Bill

This would certainly open up a lot of discussion and from how I work the races I can say the TPR would be one of my favourite tabs.
I would use to get some final rankings into the BL / BL

Yes Dilivery .
That is a smart way to go. I can usually stop my handicapping process just from the phase 1 readouts .and the match up .
But In Pace Makes The Race Doc writes
about advanced concepts . So using all your tools
In RDSS2 , especially VDC will surly help you.
Now VDC and the BLBL were not invented yet, but Doc does start to get into declaration ratios
Remember PMTR is an introduction into the Sartin
Methodology, not just a book about TPR ratings
Good Skill

Hi Bill,

I know that your mentoring for the TPR will be invaluable to the membership here. You or others might ask why do you say that?

In a contest here a few years ago I desperately could not understand why I did not have the winner in my top five when I thought I had a good selection. I was very upset as I had followed the guidelines from the good Doc. My anguish reached your ears and you reached out.

You showed me how to use TPR as a partial elimination tool and ZAZAM! When rerunning the race using what Bill showed me the winner was right on top. Since then, my handicapping has greatly, greatly improved because of your instruction.

You are a great teacher (not to slight Ted and many others here) and your thoughts and insight are and will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Mr. Bill and God Bless you!

Bud

Hello Bud
Yes, my goal is to make this forum that kind of experience. I remember the race . I plan on posting many teaching type race reviews. I prefer to do some races before the fact. But going over races after they are run is also helpful, that is if a set of guidelines are followed .
Please feel free to ask any question and together all can become very good users of the Sartin Methhodology

Hello is is Bill's dad Joe
Bill gave my his copy of Pace Makes The Race
to read. I enjoyed learning how the numbers were developed.
Bill showed me how to pick my lines with TPR
I take my top 5 TPR horses from RDSS and then when I
go to the track I still use the daily racing form but I use the TPR too.

Rank the contenders (no more than 4) by the method that you use. Keep a winner data base. You will list your 4 contenders from first choice to 4th. choice. Example:
if you have a field of 10 horses and your contenders are 4-12-5-8 and the race winner is horse #5, you will write 3 in the winner column because #5 was ranked 3rd. in your contender list. You might need to play one track, maybe two if you want to maintain accurate stats. You'll be surprise how much you can discover about your handicapping method. Eventually you will be able to expand, using distances, surface, boys, girls, race conditions, etc....etc....
Handicapping is full time job,
On final note, look for value and ask yourself if you should play or pass that race.
