Does anyone have a quick formula for adjusting time going from two different sprint distances or two different route distances? I know how to go from sprint to route and route to sprint, but let's say you have a horse going 6f to 7f or vice versa

Jim Bradshaw had a "Universal Adjustment" he used for extending within a distance structure. Add 6.4 seconds for each 1/2 furlong forward or back.

Would that be for each incremental split or just final time?

Just final time!

KP..........a good way to adjust a paceline from one distance to another is by using the 10k pars. This was taught by Tom Brohamer a long time ago. I have a lot of success doing this and obviously Tom did as well, because he really pushed this procedure: Say you want to make a 7 F Saratoga time out of a 5 1/2 at Saratoga. I'll make these times up for the example's sake because I don't have my 10k pars with me at the moment: :

Saratoga 5 1/2 F par: 22 2/5......45 2/5.....104 2/5

Saratoga 7 F par: 22 4/5.....45 4/5.....123 4/5

Your horse's Saratoga 5 1/2 paceline in the PPs: 23 flat.....46 1/5.....105 flat

Your horse is 3/5 slow at the first call, 4/5 slow at the second, and 3/5 slow at the final. So make these adjustments to the 7F par times.

New 7F paceline: 23 2/5.....46 3/5.....124 2/5 (use the same beaten lengths).

You can move track to track with these, any distance to any distance, turf to dirt or back. I use these to make TPR adjustments rather than the suggested "3 year best" because the 3 year best is limited if the tracks you are comparing don't run the same distance. For instance: it is easier to use the 10k pars to move from a mile seventy yards at Aqueduct to Belmont, which doesn't run that distance. They gives you a direct comparison.

I buy these pars once a year from Cynthia Publishing. The new ones come out right about this time of year.

Let me know if you need more guidance on the procedure!
