Does one have to be on line with Twin Spires to make RX3 work?

Hi, Froggy.

You have to login to Twinspires to retrieve the Profit Line data but I don't think you have to remain on-line.

Here's a screenshot of today's first race at Oaklawn. After I assembled the card, I logged into Twinspires for the PL data, but I'm not on-line now. And Rx3 uses the PL data.

Froggy, I gave you an incomplete answer. If you don't retrieve the PL data from Twinspires, RDSS will still provide an Rx3 score. Obviously, the Rx3 score won't contain the PL data. Instead, the CR+ (enhanced Class Rating) component of Rx3 will be given extra weighting. Or at least that was the case the last time I corresponded with Ted. He's always tinkering with his formulas, trying to improve them.

You can see the difference on the last two posts of this thread:

Thanks.
I don't expect to get Twin Spires any time soon.

Am I missing something? My Twin Spires account only show a Profit Line PDF that is a $5.00 to download. Please advise...

Smitty when you sign into your Twin Spires and click on wager now you should be getting the profit line grid for the track you pick as your 1st choice. You can pick 5 tracks and get the grid for each when you click on that track.

Smitty, actually all you have to do is log in to a valid TwinSpires (TS) account. Then use RDSS to obtain ProfitLine (if you wish to use it in the RDSS data array) by clicking on the ProfitLine button on the Entries screen for a given race, or a given Card Summary, or ALL Cards in MyRaces for Today.

You don't have to interact with anything on TS in your browser to get ProfitLine numbers - just use RDSS once you've logged in to TS. Same with getting race Results and Mutuel prices: when logged in to TS, use the Mutuels buttons on the same RDSS locations as above (plus the Rx screen).

AND -- Mick's earlier comment about Rx3 is correct: Rx3 is in fact the array of factors shown on the Rx screen PLUS ProfitLine, while Rx2 is the same array plus an extra dose of CR+ (enhanced Class Rating) if you don't want to or don't have access to ProfitLine or TwinSpires. In the latest aggregate Models I've seen of many hundreds of recent races this Autumn, Rx2 and Rx3 and within a few % points of Hit Rate (not sure above ROI). Lastly, Rx1 is the above mentioned factor array from Rx screen plus Morning Line. For those tracks with strong Morning Lines (e.g. NYRA, SoCal, others - check your Models), Rx1 can be very comprehensive in the Top 3 or 4 ranks.

Hope that helps Smitty (and welcome!)

I live in Texas so Twin Spires will not let me register. The RDSS-2 CONFIGURE tab indicates I need a login for Twin Spires to be able to access PROFIT LINE. RX3 which uses PROFIT LINE is also providing data. Does Twin Spires no longer require a login? Is the data provided for Profit Line and Rx3 legit?

Mike, you actually don't need to login to TwinSpires to get the ProfitLine or Prime Power ratings. Simply leave the Download TS Ratings Task checked in the Data Centre and RDSS fetches it automatically on race day (though not before then).

Or, on race day if you have previously downloaded and converted a card, click the Refresh TS Ratings button on a Card Summary screen or a race Entries screen to fetch them for today's card or race.

As to whether the ProfitLine ratings are 'legit' - there has been some issue of incorrect rankings when there is a coupled entry in a race. You can always see the PL ratings at TS dirctly (without logging in to an account) by going to the TwinSpires Mobile pages for a race: https://www.twinspires.com/bet/program/todays-races, select a race, then look in the Basic PP info for a race, the right-hand column captioned Odds. Each horse shows current lived odds, then Morning Line Odds (captioned ML) then ProfitLine Odds (captioned PL). In races without coupled entries, the rankings are correct, I believe.

ProfitLine is a factor weighted into Rx3. As to how 'legit' it is, you must model that info for yourself. Others have done over the years, and found it to be useful (that's why it has a weight in Rx3). It also provides a rank for FTS horses, so that is something to use (along with the tote board) for these horses or races featuring many FTS. I have used it to great profit several years at Saratoga!

So far at Saratoga after five days, Rx1 has the winner in top 4 87% of the time. Very small sample of only 30 races tho-no maidens and at least 5 entries. However, this is similar to last year. In addition, only three horses have won with a layoff of more than 90 days.

Thanks for your response.

My question read like I didn't think Rx3 was worthwhile. What I should of asked is how am I getting a value in the Rx3 field when I didn't have a Twin Spires login or, do we no longer need a login to Twin Spires to get Paceline.

I am super impressed with RDSS2. Its an amazing tool. I'm sorry if I implied otherwise.

No worries Mike! At the moment, you need a TS login to fetch quick Mutuel results, although RDSS can retrieve the TwinSpires ProfitLine and Prime Power numbers ('TS Ratings') without a login. The proof is - that they just show up when you assemble a race :) The login required for Mutuel results will soon go away too, so no one will need a TS account to get that stuff.

Glad you are enjoying the tools! See you in Saratoga. Buckle your seatbelt if you're staying with rmath (Dick/Richie M) - he has lots of great ideas and loves to talk about them.

I had a premium twinspires account with TSC Elite and all kinds of bells and whistles, but when I moved to Nevada, they put some kind of a hold on my account so that I can no longer log in. Nevada politicians are basically slaves to the whims of the casino owners and the casino owners do not like having to compete for your business. Is there any kind of workaround for those of us that live in states that twinspires is not legal in?

Thanks,

Dan, you don't need a TwinSpires account any more to get TS Ratings (Prime Power, ProfitLine) and Mutuel Results. That is fetched from the TS public website by RDSS. Use the Mutuels button on the Entries screen or the Rx screen to fetch prices and results after the race has run.

Good to know. I had not tried it yet, but was researching the things RDSS2 could do and came across it.

I had always thought Synthesis was the apex software of the methodology, but I am quickly learning of all the amazing things RDSS2 can do. I feel like I have been under utilizing it for years.
