I recently did a study on contender selection.
I used a set of guidelines suggested to me from two of my friends.
They both said that they were having very good results using these ratings to find the main contenders in a race.

In 360 races using Profit Line and Prime Power ratings of 5 or lower I had 335 wins .93 and 297 exactas .825 in the contenders.

This test was only to find the main horses for win.
This is a very simple and easy way to get a very high percentage of win and place horses. I ran these contenders thru RDSS and looked at the RX3 rankings and was very pleased with the results of the top 4 RX3 horses.

The races that I used were from several tracks and I used the same guidelines that I esed for the test on CSR.

I hope this is a help to anyone who is having trouble finding the main contenders in a race.

Hi rmath, in regards to your research, is the Prime Power figure your referring to a Bris number, or is it derived from RDSS?

There is a 1-5 ranking below the Profit Line number shown, but I cannot find a reference to what it may represent......so far, lol.

Thanks for any enlightenment.

Hello Richard

Here is what I have

Study = 1 month all races all tracks all race types , distance, surfaces 10/13/17 to 11/18/17

Total number of horses = 3469

Profit Line Top 5 =2032 Not in top 5 = 1437
Of the 1437 horses who were PL 6 or higher
only 39 won

Same study sample 3469 horses

RX3 Top 4 = 1862 Not top 4 = 1507

Total number of horses = 3469
Of those 1507 who were RX3 5 or higher
only 45 won

Hi John,

The numbers in the ProfitLine column on the Rx screen and Entries screen are ... ProfitLine ranks :) from TwinSpires. Per the Documentation: http://paceandcap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10574

BRIS Prime Power is not derived from RDSS. It is available from BRIS or TwinSpires, but is not retrieved automatically like ProfitLine is. If it were, I would make it retrievable by RDSS for the PowerNumber 'wildcard' slot in Rx. Hopefully soon, folks can enter it manually if they like - for an 'external' PowerNumber.

Hope that helps!

Hi Ted,
I apologize for the more or less double post on the Prime Power question, I could not find my original post. I still have one question unanswered. When having an individual horse pp's open, we see this column:
APV
CR
CSR
PL
(blank ????) 1 thru 5 are indicated which correlate to ????

I sometimes overlook things....like winners.
All the Best,
John

John, that number you're referring to is simply a mistake which should have disappeared long ago (the caption disappeared, but somehow the number remained :(). It was an early experiment at what became CR+

CR+ appears to be a superior readout. I have fixed that display and this 'number with no name' no longer appears!

Thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks Ted, perhaps I missed you commenting on that previously.
