This year's Pi day was a little sadder than its usual raucous celebration with the passing yesterday of Professor Stephen Hawking, long one of my heros.

Coincidentally, Mr Hawking was born on the 300th anniversary of the death of Galileo and he died on the 139th birthday of Einstein. Thus, three of the greatest minds of all time are connected. Or maybe it is not a coincidence.
