Question: "I installed rdss on my laptop 16" display. It seems to run much smoother on the laptop then my desktop. The desktop has a 27" monitor. When I click something it seems to take a while to refresh compared to the laptop. Is there a way to reduce the screen size. I don't know if it would help. when rdss opens it opens to full screen. I typed in display settings at the google search with no help. seems strange to me. "

Answer: The monitor attached to a computer running RDSS should have no known effect on how fast RDSS appears to run. You can change screen sizes for RDSS (or any running Windows program) in the usual way using the Windows Screen resolution settings. But that should not affect how fast RDSS appears to run.

From earlier correspondence, it was mentioned that assembling a card of races took 'a long time', though the timing of a full card assembly process was not reported. For example - an 8 race card with 66 horses took me about 90 seconds on a relatively fast but normal computer (MS Surface 9, i7 processor, 16 Gb memory, lots of free disk space).

The fact that the same RDSS program appears to work faster on a different computer would seem to indicate that some environmental setting (perhaps an Anti-virus disk-check setting?) on the first computer is affecting processing speed.

I suggest a test where on the first, slow, computer, you first reboot, turn OFF all other running programs (browser, Word, Excel, etc), temporarily turn OFF any Anti-virus checking. Then run RDSS. For a card, clear the Cache. Then assemble 1 race. Then assemble ALL races for that card. Compare assembly times for the same operations to your other faster computer.

Another possibility is that there is very little free disk space left on your first/slower computer. RDSS might be more susceptible than other programs to having free disk space to perform certain memory or disk cache operations. I suggest you clean up unneeded programs and files. Microsoft has a good tool to inspect computers for unneeded files and offer to remove them for you. CCleaner is also a reputable program to do the same thing.

Monitor size or screen resolution should not be a factor in the perceived running speed of RDSS. Normally RDSS runs fairly responsively - some operations take longer to run than others. But moving between RDSS screens in a given race should feel responsive.
