One thing in common I have noticed in watching people live that really use the programs well such as Bill and Gary is that they go about doing the races the same way each time. They wont stray away from the things that work for them. This is a trait I really admire.Jeff

One reason for that is lets say I do run off course
Its easy to see I'm lost and then all I need to do is backtrack and get on that well known road
That road has many intesting attractions

A long time ago I took something written in the Follow Up to heart and have never looked back: EACH race is unique and to go after every one the same will bring you nothing but trouble. The programs are not a cook book and treating races that way is not too imaginative.

the original post was about two people who do races
with something in common In my case a tried and true
method that I have set upon works
Here are a few reasons
1. I lost when I tried to get too creative
2. I don't do every race the same. I do every race I do the same
What I mean is I pick races when I can find the time that
my method is going to work. In the past week I did a total of 6
races I have no time in my life now to do a whole card
NJbets.com list about 10 -15 tracks most days
I just use my RDSS Desktop and check out anything
that looks good thats coming up from the enties
I look for full fields. I try to work with older etablished horses
Almost every race I do I can sort of feel it when I pick my lines
If things are too funky while picking lines I stop and find a new race
3. The above example (point 2) is when I am betting from home.
When I go to a track for live racing or a simulcasting place
I use Valm or energy and hand enter my lines. I do races that are not
going off for awile, I can keep to myself. It takes so long to do each race That I again can pick my spots and I don't get caught up
in the crowds opinion When I do go to the track usually I am asked to
do a race for whoever I am with . I do them for them buonly bet the ones
were i think my method will work If not I pass
To me this is the way racing is today Shoes original post
was very nice and I hope others are winning if they stay consistant
Thanks Tompkins
Bill
Tompkins,
get real. In horse racing you stick with the FACTS at hand. There's no room for immagination, or creativity.

Just to clarify myself I meant how Bill and Gary have a game plan on how to attack a race. When I go about doing a race Im all over the place which I feel is not a good way to do things.

Tompkins,
get real. In horse racing you stick with the FACTS at hand. There's no room for immagination, or creativity.
Then you become an UNIMAGINATIVE clone following the 'step by step" malarkey that is gospel. Balderdash "Become a regurigitator" it's easy amd mind-numbing.
It is a PARIMUTUEL game. You have to be different to survive. You look at co-relations that the crowd misses. This crowd too...SIMPLE.
Tompkins,
If you are using Val, Spec or whatever, for your creative and immaginative handicapping skills, you have my blessing.

A group tried to close the U.S. patent office with this same idea in the 1890's. "Well everything had been discoverd hadn't it?" Same here. Look back at this 10 years from today.
THINGS change, they always do. We learn more, find new corelations that had previously been unknown. One should never rest on the laurels of today and not try and push the envelope.

Hi Tompkins
I never did anything in handcapping trying to be better than
anyone Except Me
All I care about is doing better each cycle
Ok so I can't post after the fact and say look I had this horse because
in this instance this worked ..... then the next race This worked
Thats your bag and its cool
By doing races over and over the same way I have learned that
the problem when I lose is either "crap happens"
or I just made a incorrect choice If I look too hard I
see nothing thats who I am
All I want is to have good 20 race cycles and win my money
I don't care who else has the horse

My goodness. Didn't know anyone used them once they became competent.
Must have usefulness at some level.
Ah the temporal references again: as if time somehow changed correlations. It doesn't, never has never will.

Funny how you take things out of the Follow up and its good for you
I do too. If you use the 20 race cycles correctly
the benifits are very powerful
I recommend studying them in a calm quiet relaxed mood
and they can be very encouraging
I have a very good example I will post it after my next race

Bill,
I think you're right to pick and chose the races that you think you can get a handle on and make a profit.
This is not a game to see how many races you can bet.
It is a business in which you get paid for correct decisions.
Not all decisions win even when they were the right ones to make. We all have to deal with racing luck good or bad.
And sometimes we can't foretell that Secretariat is going to be off his feed and loose to Onion today.
I don't do 20 race cycles any more. Instead I do two days at each track. I normally do all the races at a track for two days (approximately 18 races) then I record that on a 20 race form. This way I know which track is more profitable for me.
The 20 race cycle forms have proved to me that I could bet ever race and still be a winner. Not a very big winner but a winner never the less.
They do tell me how I am doing and why and what I need to do to increase profits.
If any business doesn't keep records they won't be in business long.
Its easy to forget your mistakes and remember your successes.
I also don't normally bet every race as I did Saturday. That was an aberration.
There are moments in time when my mind seems to get clear and in tune with how a race going to run.
That's all it was. I'm not really that good.
Keep up the good work and thanks for everything.

Hi Froggy
The 20 race cycle helps me in many ways
here are some things that I find helpful
1. I use them. It keeps me focused on improvement.
Win % is what I look for. And win price not so much
Sorry I am being honest. I will bet low odds horses
But I do split my bet 60/40 for the low odds guys
2. When I look to much for odds I do worse
When I look at my readouts and find the two horses i feel have the
best chance to win the race I bet them The nice prices come
on thier own
3. The cycles make it easy to know when things are going bad
Take a look at my last one I lost 6 races in a row betting 2 horses
after any three losses in a row I STOP betting READ FOLLOW UPS
Doc says always stop after 3 losses The 20 race cycle
shows me that doing this almost always works great
I had 2 stops in a row !!! Things were real bad In my head
I thought they were worse I cried to Richie I"M done !!!
But now looking at the whole cycle the second stop worked
Look at the results after the secondd stop
4. Always end on a win
5. I make a paper copy of each cycle I lye down when its quiet
and just focus on the wins. When I do this my confidence
gets better
6. I have 3 good cycles for every bad one
This one I just finished is very consistant for me
9 out of 20 and about $12.00 per win is what i usually get
here is my last cycle
20 Race cycle
1. Loss
2. Win $18.60
3. Loss
4. loss
5. loss
stop
6. loss
7. loss
8. loss
stop
9. win $7.80
10 Win $6.00
11 win $9.00
12 loss
13 Win $15.20
14 loss
15 Win $25.60
16 Win $12.00
17 loss
18 Win $8.00
19 loss
20 Win $8.80
number of wins 9
number of stops 2

That's terrific work!
40% ROI is something to be very proud of.
Your HONESTY in laying out both the good and the bad streaks that are part of the game we play are refreshing.
Salute:)
Richie
20 race cycles.....why would you not use them to track your performance?
Has nothing to do with competency at all. Anyone in manufacturing knows you have to not only prove your process's competency (capability) to your cutomers, you have to prove day to day control. It's required in all the manufacturing standards...ISO, QS, Aerospace standards.....just plain comomn sense to track progress and review it.
I track the number of wins per 20- races and also the roi for that group.
