This thread is a glimpse of one of the things I will be doing with the Matchup newsletter. Provide feedback, tools, articles and Jim's teaching up close and PERSONAL to help you WIN.
Purpose of this thread:
To produce screen shots of race "Matching Patterns" that will repeat themselves IF we are LOOKING for them and match races in a QUIET environment allowing RECALL of such WINNING patterns.
I am going to use "Hat Helpers" for each race laid out. REMEMBER them. They will help put CASH in your pockets going forward when you work races ALONE.
When I "quote" Jim they are HIS teachings to me. NOTHING added by me.
FOCUS on him talking. Then when working race by yourself let your mind LISTEN to what he says.
If you are SERIOUS about learning the Matchup you MUST be alone in a quiet room where you can FOCUS on the races that will follow. Otherwise you will NOT get what you need from this.
This will be an ongoing thread(until my newsletter is finished and ready to go) where several races a week will be displayed. These are WINNING race patterns.
1) LISTEN to Jim talking to YOU in the "Hat helper"
2) LOOK at the screen shot
3) Go back and LISTEN to Jim talking to YOU in the "Hat helper"
4) LOOK at the screen shot
5) REMEMBER what you just heard and saw

Good stuff, Richie as usual. I finally got one!
I do have a question though. I noticed on the 10 horse you used the 4th line back and on the 1 you also used the 4th line and on another you used the 5th line...all well and good.
I know we've talked about power lines and the like, but I was wondering if you could elaborate on your pace line selection method either here or in the newsletters. Seeing as how you have more experience doing this than any of us excepting the Hat, I know I could learn a thing or two from your thinking about which pace lines to use and why.
Thanks

1) I looked at the 1st fraction times of the sprinter #3. 23.0
2) I looked at the 1st fraction time of the fastest router #9. 24.0
3) For me to BET my money on Other than early I NEEDED one who faced 1st fraction pace of 23.0 - 24.0 tops. If I didn't I would PASS the race and move on(which happens often).
4) Moving through the field I hadn't found one and was all set to PASS when I got to the last horse #10.
5) Look at his pp's from the last race moving downward
a) last race is a sprint - No
b) 2nd back is route facing 25.1 first fraction - way too slow - No
c) 3rd back is route facing 24.4 first fraction - way too slow - No
d) 4th back is route facing 23.3 first fraction - BINGO! - WINS the race and shows vicious POWER MOVE!

Thanks, Richie. I see what you did, and it makes perfect sense. I have two followup questions:
1. How far back would you go? Would you go all the way back to the tenth race if need be?
2. The line you selected for the 10 was from a different track--FP--so I assume that made no difference whatsoever.
I also assume you made no adjustments, and just took that time at face value. I have no problem with doing that, and I have been doing things that way myself. I'm just trying to make sure I completely understand. Are there any circumstances where you or the Hat would adjust that time?
Thanks again.

YES as long as the horse being looked at has not changed his running style completely in recent races

The track made NO difference whatsoever. Made NO adjustments and took it at face value Steve.
There are SOME tracks I would mentally adjust. Some examples:
1) Cd 6f race - 1st fraction from there are very fast - I slow them by 3-4 ticks in my head
2) Crc dirt - VERY slow when comparing to Gp,Bel etc. I try to key in on first fraction/first calls there when evaluating vs other tracks Steve. I match em up based on EARLIEST part of race if that makes sense. It's where the difference in track speeds are minimized or non existent. This is what Jim taught me to do.
Hope this helps and nice hit selecting the 10! :)

i love to see my selection run 113.2 at the stretch in a 8f race.
I think it might be confusing for some, reading the #10 4th. line it seems to indicate that he was 2nd at the stretch in 113.2 time. Wow that is fast.

Hat gave me this race to do immediately when he got back from playing Sunday.
HERE is how YOU can apply some of his Voodoo techniques ok?
FOCUS on what he tells YOU in the Hat Helpers for this race type.FOCUS.
Hat Helper #1 - "Today is that 5.5f screwy distance.Focus on the horse's 5.5f lines" - The Hat
***Hat Helper #2*** - "Find the fastest pace from LAST race. If that horse's running style fits TODAY'S projected winning style (early/other than early) use that last race pace of race and if you have to substitute another line's POSITIONS for the ones shown in last race. This is OK to do." - The Hat
1) This race the 2 and 4 come out of fastest pace last race tandem. 4 destroyed the 2 and the 4 has other than early style.
2) Looking at the fractions and styles this race should go other than early. We have our match of TODAY'S projected winning style with the 4's fastest pace last race style. NOW we apply step 3.
3) Pace of last race is kept for the 4 and POSITIONS from last race (7-7-5-5)are replaced by the ones from line 2(7-6-1-1 POWER MOVE!).
New Voodoo line for the 4
22.2 - 45.4 - 58.0 - 104.3 Positions 7-6-1-1
Who wins NOW?
Think this is crazy man? LOOK at the result chart fractions. Then LOOK at the Positional move made by the winning 4 horse.
THIS is the matchup. Voodoo has arrived folks. YOU can do this with FOCUSED practice and working of races.

As to the #10 horse you went 4th race back. When do you figure and how do you figure that a particular horse has gotten to slow? You have said once before that "The Hat" does not necessarily go with horses in form out of form but are they to slow or not. Does a horse becoming to slow apply to only early type runners?

I always knew when Mr. Bradshaw makes a statement in point about the MatchUp, a COUPLE of chapters could be written just on ONE.

Good question.
If that 10 horse HAD faced my proj pace in say both of the last 2 races and had done NOTHING that probably is a serious tipoff it is not the same animal it was 4 back.
With this horse and it's form cycle things are a bit different "Mu". At least to me they appeared to be. He is definitely an other than early who appears to need a FAST 1fr-1c to fire a good race. Those routes 2 and 3 back were just way too slow for him to have a chance to fire. Line 4 just seemed right here.
Do i do this and get it wrong too? YES.
KEY for me is to make sure I BET money on "Other than early horses" who show
1) Power Lines
2) Power moves
against pace's at least as fast as projected for TODAY. This is what Hat taught me from the word go Robert.
He does NOT want BETS to be made on slow horses. I am not at his level by any stretch so what I do is PASS a heck of a lot more races than he does.
I WAIT for winning race patterns to show themselves to me. Than if I am getting at least 2/1 at 2-3 mtp I fire. If not I move on QUICKLY.

This winning race pattern can DEFINITELY be learned and applied to WIN certain race types.
THIS race pattern is EXACTLY the one Jim showed me the FIRST time he pulled his Voodoo on me.
It was a turf race from Calder and I told him "how the hell do you get this horse Jim?". Then he showed me what he did which HONESTLY stunned the crap out of me. Then he proceeded to give me 3 more races like that one in the next week. Without telling me he was working on me getting to RECOGNIZE the PATTERN on my own. First 2 I missed completely than caught on for the third.
Nice thing is these guys usually pay good Voodoo. At times BOMBER prices.

Richie in the Pha race, I bet that race and lost. I bet #7 Storming. He came in 2nd. I thought he was the fastest horse in the race and the race was going to run EARLY. And he was going to be the Lone Early.
Is this a mistake of mine because I was suppose to match these horses only at 5.5f.

I didn't know what else to call this scenario.
2 early style horses with the rest being really sustained POSITIONALLY.
Hat helper - "Look at the early horse(s). If he can not get the lead he needs at 1st call throw him out and re evaluate the matchup" - The Hat
This is a race from Zia Park yesterday afternoon.
The 1 is early. 23.0 first call and needs open lead to win. Can he get that TODAY?
Look at the first fractions/positions of the 7. Plus throw in the fact he is a FIGHTER(Hat's FAVORITE type of horse). He kills the 1.
Throw out the 1 and now re evaluate the race. Does the 7 appear COMPLETELY dominate now?
screen shots in order
1) whole field matchup
2) matchup after removing the slow ass 1 for re evaluation
3) result chart of the race
2 things to note:
1) The 7 has already destroyed the 3 and 5 in tandem race
2) Look at our matchup. then look at the result chart. Race runs EXACTLY like the matchup predicts. 1 takes the lead-goes too fast- 7 passes effortlessly and goes on to destroy the field.
This "Positional advantage" type race might be similar to a "clear-clear" setup the Hat taught me a year ago and is attributed to the work of the Parente brothers from Canada. They learned the matchup personally from Jim years back and are awesome.
I didn't want to use the name if I have mistakenly identified the makeup of it out of respect. They are members here so if they see this and want to chime in it is most welcome :)

For some reason, those Canadians take to Jim "The Hat" Bradshaw's MatchUp like a newborn pup wanting it's mamma. Most seem to be extremely open minded to it , like a kid with a classroom crush on his teacher. Not hardheaded and resistant like their Yankee brethren south of them. Richie, I have one question. I got this race no problem. But looking at the result chart it appears that the one horse did indeed get the clear, easy two length lead he needed to wire the field. He wasn't pressured at all.
Seeing as how he got exactly what he needed, why didn't he win? What happened?

OK, now wait a minute. This race just went completely over my head the first time I looked at it. I had to look again. This is simply amazing, and I don't get why it works.
The horse ran in a race with a similar (or same) pace as today's fastest pace of race, so that allows you to switch positions with a better race! You switch a 7-7-5-5 with a 7-6-1-1 just because he ran in a race that matches the "fastest last race pace?" And the race you're switching with is a maiden race no less!
And I'm assuming this is not just a 5 1/2 furlong thing either, but that it's applicable to all distances...right?

Evaluating An Early Runner
A Lone Early is a runner that can go wire-to-wire, without a challenge from any other runner in the race. The same is true if it is decided that the race is to run early. Otherwise, the race is going to run other than early. There are certain things to look for before making the decision, on how the race "sets" up.
Evaluate the runners in today’s race and decide the running style of all runners. Next look at the Early Runners and evaluate them and ask yourself the following questions:
1. Look at all running lines and see if any runner can go wire-to-wire.
2. What type of lead does the runner need. Open lengths, or can the runner fight?
3. What happens if he is challenged?
4. Is there any early challengers in today’s race?
5. Is the runner a quitter?
After answering these question there should not be any question on how a race "sets up."
Ok, lets look at the Philadelphia race and evaluate the Early Runners. The two and seven runners are the top Early runners in the race. The two tried for the lead in the last race and failed. The seven had a three length lead and lost lengths from the first call to the stretch. Both horses are quitters when challenged. The two will challenge the seven. The three is also an Early runner and does not have a prayer. This race "sets up" to run other than early. The five is rather early and does not have a chance. The four
is the best other than early horse in the race and should win.. Take a look at Tandems.

6 is a complete lone early. We DO have to answer the question of what happened in his last 2 races justifying going back to that 3rd line which is his power line.
2 answers for you to consider:
1) those last 2 were around 1 turn while today is 2 turns.
2) LOOK at the pace of the last 2 races. 23's and 45's and in 1 of those races he did not even get the lead! There is NOTHING in TODAY'S race that can touch him early on.
Hat helper - "Can the early horse you are evaluating get the early lead it needs to win. Start with the FIRST call" - The Hat
Please note the 6 has already hammered the 5 in a tandem. Guess what? He hammered his ass AGAIN!

Something new at least as far as being posted up here. These following 2 races NEED to be shown in my opinion even though they will open a can of worms.
It is NOT matching earlies like the other layout. This is a bit more subtle and requires AGAIN a quiet focused mind to pick up on.
I NEED to start emphasizing and showing you races and "setups" where INTUITION and/or FEEL is the key element to winning the race. This is also going to leave us wide open to looking really foolish sometimes when things do not pan out like we envision.
This is what we do however. PICK a winner/Bet him/Win or lose MOVE ON.
These are kind of the "grey area" races that occur frequently on cards(least they do with ME). Calls are going to be made that might go against some guidelines that have been shown before.
All I can honestly tell you is that IF you keep an open mind and LOOK at what these pictures will show you WILL see this happen again and again going FORWARD and be rewarded with some nice prices. We are also going to be DEAD WRONG sometimes and lose.
THIS is Jim Bradshaw's matchup. Intuition and making calls man.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Screen shot #1 shows all the horses in the field. Notice some of the "E" designated horses. One is from 4.5f lines where he was 2nd at 1c. I feel today stretching to 5.5f he is GOING to the front. There is another guy who sits 3rd at 1c I have marked "E". Looking at the rest of the horses I "feel" he might go so I mark him as such.
I called this race going other than early after sensing pressure and some stopping earlies.
Screen shot #2 shows the field reduced to the other than earlies. THIS is how I work races. Throw whole bunches of horses OUT. Then the final decision making picture is easier to "see".
Ok so we have a 5.5f race and we do want to focus on 5.5f lines. The thing is HERE that top line on the 1 is "telling me" he should be ahead of the 5 (my final 2 contenders are 1,5). Look at the positioning of his last line. Also I "felt" that because I used such a deep line for the 1 I could factor in that last line to help me get a feel for him TODAY.
IF you go strictly by the 5.5f races the 5 is the horse. Using some Intuition and factoring in the last race on the 1 HE becomes the horse in my opinion.
If you feel this is doublespeak I understand and will post all replies to this as long as nothing said gets personal ok? If I didn't post this race and the one that follows I would not be doing justice to Jim's matchup. he has NO rules. NONE.
LOOK closely at the pictures. Can you get to the 1 horse? Might think it's a lot of stuff to get to a lower odds winner BUT the FOLLOWING races price will change all that quickly.

This is the very next race from Mountaineer last night.
1st screen shot shows all the field. Whole bunch of earlies BUT the 9 seems to be faster than the others. Showing 5 races for him. Shows a pattern of great race/clunker/great race/clunker. Well IF this holds TODAY IS clunker.
IF we can make that call THEN the race becomes full of early pressure and other than early holds the key to the win in my opinion.
2nd screen shot shows ALL the early designated horses removed. Look at the 3 man. This part is easy. Hard part is evaluating the 1st screen shot and throwing out horses and making calls on race shape.
3rd screen shot is result chart.
4th screen shot are the pp's of the winner.

PS -what happened to the 9? couldn't make the lead and ran 2nd

Richie. I'm with you all the way on these two races except for one thing--the pace line you used for the winner in the second race.
All kinds of things come to mind. The horse is just too slow and has been running badly. You have to go too far back. Why not take the line right before that one where he won the race?
I think you see my confusion.
Could you expand on the pace line selection for that horse, because this seems to be the whole key to winning this race.
Thanks

ok looking at the times for the EARLY runners at the first FRACTION I see a bunch of 23's. That's forgetting the 9's 22.0 which is just ridiculous at Mountaineer(I play there EVERY night and THAT time is a total anomaly man)
So I tell myself to accept as FAST horses any other than early with a 23 or so first fraction.
Looking at the winner's pp's from last race moving down
49.1 first call at 9f - WAY too slow when appx TODAYS pace -NO
49.3 first call at 9f - same as above - NO
23.2 first fraction - considered this line then wanted to see more because it was sloppy track - ??
24.3 first fraction - WAY too slow compared to TODAY - NO
24.1 first fraction - Too slow again -NO
24.1 first fraction - Same as above - NO
23.0 first fraction- fast track matching TODAYS condition - HERE is my line.
**Please remember only WINNING races will be shown here ok? I do the SAME thing and lose races all the time. I just do NOT look back or rework them(here or alone).
I am going to show race "Pictures" or "Patterns" of repeating looks that can be recognized in advance to PROFIT from. That's what this thread is all about.

I NEED to start emphasizing and showing you races and "setups" where INTUITION and/or FEEL is the key element to winning the race.
These are kind of the "grey area" races that occur frequently on cards(least they do with ME). Calls are going to be made that might go against some guidelines that have been shown before.
THIS is Jim Bradshaw's matchup. Intuition and making calls man.
Yeah,.....NOW this is the netherworld of Jim "The Hat" Bradshaw.....roadmaps , compasses, gyroscopes and satellite telemetry are of little use here.
These are the kind of races that make me wonder if I ever will get a handle on the MatchUp ...." pulling all my hair out my scalp " kind of races.
You are really being trained , Rich,...this is Jedi territory. Getting a handle on these type races , one steps to the next level that people "think " they are already at or near , but are not. The kind of level that enters you into the realm of real life pro, Pirco charter member level. Seperates the pretenders/wannabes/ wish they coulds from those who can consistantly supplement part or a majority of their income from paramutual investment, just my opinion , however wrong I am.
On your first example, I think Mr. Bradshaw knows tracks speeds at the first call , and knows whether there 'll be a difference in speed at different distance and / or tracks ; whether it can be looked it as is or a minor difference is warranted.
On your second call on the #9 horse, that was a steel nad call . Thats the kind of horse that leaves me dazed and confused and wondering if I know anything about horses. I think this post is in that realm of a saying Mr. Bradshaw states when teaching the MatchUp ; a grey area principle that only can be described of as pattern recognition, which Rich smartly named : "How many repeat winners are there at your track?".
As you get better Rich, you explained this pretty good, but you will explain it better as you master the weapons Mr. Bradshaw is teaching you. The training Mr. Bradshaw is giving you , which is passed on to us by you is absolutely unparalled.
Right here is that buffer zone ( grey area ) to get to the other side of MatchUp advancement. If one could get thru this area , its like overcoming the force of inertia. VoodooFan

In the first race the 1 & 5 are the stand-outs.

Also like Tom Brohamer said, being able to compare apples with apples. Like that call you made on a race to disregard the 2 one turn mile races to get to the 3rd back which is a two turn mile and 16th race, and today is a mile and 16th. Knowing when to and when not ; when rules apply and when they don't ; that's the stuff of successful handicapping. VoodooFan

Making "calls" and going by Intuition is part and parcel to Jim's matchup.
ok with regards to the 3 and going deep for a line:
KEY is to remember THIS horse is "other than early" and needs a pace to run at. We want to do the best we can using the past performances shown to identify line(s) that most resemble what is expected TODAY. How?
1) Projecting a pace starting with the first call (first fraction in routes)
2) Trusting our MINDS to "recall" patterns of success with regard to line selection for evaluation
3) Trusting our MINDS to "recall" patterns of success with regard to line selection for evaluation

LOOK at the race by race breakdown of line evaluation for the 3 at Mountaineer ok?
When you are done go back to the first page of this thread and look at the first example race from Hoosier. That race was also designated to run other than early. LOOK at the race by race breakdown of line evaluation for the 10 horse.
Same EXACT process. Know WHY?
It is the same horse in both races. Only the name has been changed.
IT IS THE SAME HORSE IN BOTH RACES.ONLY THE NAME HAS BEEN CHANGED.
a) both horses are other than early
b) both horses need lines projecting around a 23 and change first fraction.
c) both horses matching line for evaluation are deep in pp's
d) both horses pay very nice prices
e) both horses matching line for evaluation are deep in pp's
f) both horses pay very nice prices
g) it is the same horse in both races. only the name has been changed

Remember we do NOT penalize other than early horses who have been facing slower paces recently when TODAY figures to be fast pace.
We DO penalize EARLY horses who have not been able to get on top of slower fractions recently.

You must have been reading my mind, because this was the central crux of my question.
Is the following statement accurate?
If the race shape is determined to be OTE, you can then scan every line of every OTE horse looking for good lines that closely match the first call projected pace. When you find those lines (I assume they should be winning races, power lines, etc.), you can then use those lines to matchup all OTEs against each other regardless of how far back you have to go to get them.

Thats a nice quote , especially the 1st one. That bears repeating again.
Intuition and feel , wow..."knowing" and "seeing" when the rules apply and when they "DON'T"....
1) went past bullring lines, cause today is a one turn mile
2) went past one turn mile lines, cause today is a two turn mile
3) did not soley look at 5.5 furlong line, specially cause he went faster and
improved position at 6 furlongs in the slop and looks similar to how he
performed at 5.5
4) thru out an Early horse cause he has a 6 or 7 race past performance
pattern in a row: every decent race he runs, the next
race is "ALWAYS" a stinker
All the Pirco material and programs Doc published was tryin to get us "here",
to "this" place ; cause he knows if we get here, it did'nt matter what
program or Pirco discipline /tool we used ; we would be successful.
Look at the Pirco teaching members. Various approaches and disciplines with
the Methodology at their core , yet all are successful.
Like Mr. Bradshaw always says, "what are they facing TODAY?" "What is he going to do TODAY?'
Intuition as a sub-subject under Pattern Recognition is smartly done Rich,
and like you said looks to be "KEY" to approaching this door of "Intuition".
Looks like Repeating Pattern Recognition is the closest "template" or "step
by step by the numbers" method of acquiring this intuition.
Some of the old , "street smart" track hounds seem to have this BEFORE they
got into the Methodology; I think Doc never worried about them. They just
needed a proven, consistant scientific structure/format to put their "street smart"
instincts toward maximum benefit.
Most of the innovations of the Methodology seems to attempt to help
overcome the problems of the lost sheep who just cound'nt see . Even
if the horse walks up and bites them on the nose, still can't see the
horse . Some have been blind and now can see, some can get along like
Ray Charles, without a cane or dog, but must most of us need a cane,
dog, AND some one (maybe 2 ) to hold us by the arm "aka"
Pirco tools.
If intuition is can be put in pill form, or step by step template, sign me up
for a lifetime supply.
I'll be a 5 star platinum customer.

I think, almost every Follow-Up, the Doc had something or some
exercise to help intuition, trying to hammer the point home, ie, you call the
race, rubberbands, biofeedback, etc.,
Talk about intuition, you got a few still using Phase III , winning for the past
twenty years. FREAKIN PHASE III for christ sakes!!!!
Talk about intuition!!! And no less, one or two still uses a calculator!!
God forbid if there are any Timex/Sinclair computers or 1360 computers
being used. Contender selection has to be at an optimum to make it work.
Bet'cha they can chime in on "instinct" and " intuition" for contender
selection.
I just found some 1360 cassettes to program one for MatchUp
program, EnGen, Contender Scan. Smithsonian material for sure.
Hell , I remember listing to a tape of Mr. Bradshaw going over a race, and a
particular jockey, every time he got on a horse, he, at least
at the first call, tried to make a horse run early, regardless of it's style , fractions or
form ,so that ONCE , I think he used that factor to determine how the race
and / or this horse would affect the pace in that particular race. Talk about
breakin the rules. Like in the "MatchUp Guys" section in the MatchUp book, if
there's a temporary bias that can be substantiated, the MatchUp Guys
WILL take advantage of it, as long as it's there.
Like he also said, if Tandems can help you, use them, if not, disregard them.
"Intuition" , "Instinct" , "Feel", " using the rules", "breaking the rules", this is a MatchUp subject onto itself. This
is the boat to get to the other side. On You Tube, I watched the Founder
of Judo, old film. No matter how big or strong or fast the student was, he
could not throw the Master, even when he had him half-way thrown !!!
The Master easily countered him no matter what position he was in, like
he was playing with a kid, although the Founder looked to be about 5 feet
or so, and maybe 105 lbs. soaking wet. Beyond technical technique.
I think if Intuition was on a map, it would be the Bermuda Triangle .
Atlantis is around here, and they STILL can't find it.
Marine and topographical charts only barely help. VoodooFan

After reading this thread today I went back and grabbed a random card to practice. Try picking the winner in these four races from EVD. You'll have to assume my pace lines, contenders and projected pace are accurate. The screen shots only show the OTE horses after the earlies have been eliminated.
All of these races ran OTE, and the winner is there. That much I got right.
Picking the winners was not so easy. These were tough races.

I know this flies in the face of what most everyone else does BUT it has to be said:
Do NOT go back over losing races if you are matching from the Form or pp's. Your mind's ability to think instinctively will be destroyed. I learned the HARD WAY losing 15 races in a row and quitting almost a year ago by doing this.Learn from my mistake.
1) Work races

These races are two or three months old, and I played them live, but to be perfectly honest I can't remember whether I won them, lost them or passed them. They are as good as new as far as that goes. I didn't go back and look anything up.
One thing I do know is that the technique I applied was new, and I was able to look at them much differently in light of what I've recently learned. I know for a fact that I didn't pick pace lines the same way the first time around.

Jim sent me this photo of a puma almost a year ago. I have him on my desktop now. With a 20" wide screen monitor he FILLS my screen man.
He watches over me and I "feel" his stare when I am working races.
I focus on his eyes before I start working races and realize he is totally FOCUSED on what he is doing. NO distractions whatsoever.
Jim tells me "he is ready to pounce Rich. Look at his intensity and focus."

When applying the matchup work races alone, quiet, focused and be ready to pounce when opportunity presents itself.

I was out with a young lady most of the evening and got home a while ago and decided to see if anything looked good.
This just ran at Charlestown 10 minutes ago.
Hat helper - "Start your evaluations of races and horses by looking as far LEFT on the pp's as you can. There is MONEY there and most of the competition is blind to it. Use it to HELP you." - The Hat
Ok at first blush the 2 might seem to have the best of the early horses matching with the 3.
I was liking him when i noticed the 3 horse also pure early was a FIGHTER. I paused.
Then I noticed the BREAK positions on the 4 races of the 2 and 3 shown. These suckers WANT the lead and there is a good chance their will be a vicious FIGHT ensuing compromising their chances for the WIN.
I marked up the proj pace to see if anything popped up worth a wager in a race kind of filled with questions. At least for me.
THIS is where RDSS helps me GREATLY man. The COLORS.
I entered lines and noticed IMMEDIATELY the 8 horse had 2 of 3 races with a pace of race FASTER than what was projected at BOTH the 2c and sc. Now I am seriously interested. I am dead serious.
Then I LOOK at his POSITIONS and see he is PERFECT for what I need in THIS race. IF I am right and the 2 and 3 fight and kill each other the 8 is closest to the pace positionally and also FAST. THERE is my horse.
If I am wrong I lose my bet and move on.
2 minutes to post the 8 is 7/2 so I fire a bullet.
Here is where Intuition and remembering that Jim starts his evaluation of every race by looking as far LEFT on the pp line he can really helped me with evaluating the correct race shape - OTHER THAN EARLY
THIS race is a type that a year ago I lose virtually every time. I would go early and get beaten. THIS setup with early fighters who start at the BREAK is something you WILL see on more than one occasion IF you LOOK for it ok?

Can I ask why you chose 23.7 for the first call projected pace rather than 23.3?
THIS race is a type that a year ago I lose virtually every time. I would go early and get beaten.
Is the reason for this because you felt the 2 horse was the "fastest" of the two earlies, plus he's a fighter, so you would go with the fastest early?
One final question: there were 10 horses in this race. Two were early and you had two OTE contenders. Of the six remaining horses weren't any of them OTE who could match the projected pace? I'm finding that by going deep when I think the race will run OTE that I'm getting a lot of contenders that match the first call pace, making it pretty tough to separate them. I feel like I'm getting "too many" contenders.
Good analysis, and nice hit.

Can I ask why you chose 23.7 for the first call projected pace rather than 23.3?
I am attaching the pdf pp's for the card Steve so you can check things out.
That 23.7 looked real to me where if that 23.3 is used basically everyone in the race is thrown out and I am "BUYING" the 2 horse as my horse and BET.
This decision(use 23.7) came to me in a quick little "feeling".
I TRUSTED it and THEN the 4 lines for the 2 and 3's BREAK position showed itself to me. Now I have a totally different race on my hand.
THESE races I lost so many times going "early" for my bet that my mind finally had enough and warned me man. That is pattern recognition/intuition.
The "Hat's" matchup is NOT
projecting pace
running styles
spot plays
etc.etc.
HIS matchup is all about the MIND and RECALLING patterns/races that have run before. The things listed above are byproducts Steve. Let me stop here and show folks something please.

Rich has told the story of the Cougar and relaxing chants that prepare his mind to achieve the best results when doing The Match Up. This is essential for "pattern recognition." Research has found that the ideal state for learning is when the brain is in a relaxed, but in an aware state. When I say relaxed, I mean focused and aware. At this time the mind is clear, receptive to information, and rapidly makes 'connections', realizations and joins up thoughts.
Once at a seminar in New Orleans a couple of guys brought a Biofeedback Machine that was supposed to accomplish relaxation. The purpose was to sell the machines. They were asked, if I needed one and they
said "they had observed me reaching relaxation at will."
The more you are able to prepare your mind for the task ahead the better chance you have in accomplishing The Match Up. I reach the relaxation state through relaxed breathing At this time my mind is clear, receptive to information, and rapidly makes 'connections', realizations and joins up thoughts.

a) To help relaxation, I found out long ago I can't concentrate and
even attempt to get at that " quiet place " you and The Hat
talks about at "live" racing atmosphere. Also trying to
handicap ahead of time in this environment is, for me, almost
impossible.
b) Don't like the questions on the applications they have you fill
out. Too much personal information ; your blood type, what
size jock cup you wear, etc,. , plus with identity theft and all ,
you kind of apprehensive of too many sources with your
information. BUT, if I got to bite the
bullet , I GOT to bite the bullet.
c) To master pattern recognition, to what I understand , you have
to pick races selectively. For me, avoiding all turfs , too many
mixed distance past performance lines , maiden races , and
possibly bullrings. Picking races where there is a CLEAR ,
verifyable Early horse with at least 2 recent lines that show as
such , no "flukes " , so as to get a 1st call projection. Then
work on the Lone Early, Dominant Early, 3 Multiple Earlys , and
the "Clear - Clear Early. The only other possible race to work
is the " Chaos " race , in which all the horses in their 10 lines
NEVER been in the lead . Because most times when I buy a
Racing Form, you seem to have to pass a lot of races to get
to the one's that qualify. If I have an on -line wagering
account , I can download load lot's of cards and have enough
plays to keep in practice.
2) I'm gonna buy that CD of Indian chants and music , play that for an hour
or so before handicapping , to see if I can relax. Probably have to try that
for a few weeks to see how it goes.
3) I seen some authentic bundled sage brush bundled by Native Americans in
the health food store, but they had another name for it. It is supposed be
ceremonial incence , so while I'm listening to the CD , I'll have that
burning to see if it helps accentuate relaxation.
4) Jim " The Hat " Bradshaw must've went to his deep place to combine the
psychology he knows plus Native American philosophies to teach and
relay the message to you to relay to us the importance of this mind state.
You truly are a perfect MatchUp student. Why do I say that? 'Cause how
in theeeeeeee HOLY HELL did he get you , a NEW YORKER ,
to accept RELAXATION!?!? Are you kidding me ? Are you serious ?
That crazy place with all the traffic , noise , fast moving pace , so noisy ,
so fast, EVERYONE has to talk loud and fast. Ever heard the term a
New York minute ? Definately a good teacher. Are you sure you're
Italian ? Methinks you may have some Native American in your family tree,
somewhere, to readily absorb this aspect of The Hat's teaching

I LIKE this VERY much as a battle plan.VERY much. I will comment on the rest after speaking with Jim please ok?
I have NO shame/insecurity in telling you and everyone that I PASSED the entire Pha and Haw cards today because I did NOT find what I am looking for Voodoo. I found what I NEEDED to WAGER at Charlestown.I told Jim this on the phone earlier.
Different folks have different goals/methods as it should be.
I am in it for the MONEY and have increased my wagers to a level as high as I have ever been at betting ONE horse $20.00. That is chump change to some here and that is fine.I only speak the truth as to my REALITY coming from 2 horse value betting for over 15 YEARS.
I am ONLY playing races where I totally KNOW who is gonna win even if they do NOT when the race actually runs.
Voodoo LISTEN: I am TOTALLY into the Puma. See his EYES? They are RECALLING what is about to happen because he has seen it BEFORE.
Read that again SLOWLY. Then trust me read it AGAIN.

This $20.00 level has been reached after starting with TWO dollar bets as per Jim's instructions to me over a year ago. My bank has grown significantly through hard work and PATIENCE. By this time next year my bets will be exceeding $50.00 as confidence and bank grows.
Jim made a SPECIFIC game plan for me after asking what my GOALS in racing are ok? Let's leave it as I like VERY MUCH your game plan.
I will comment on the rest tomorrow
