Tim is somewhere in England and seems to be only posting over on Sartin Alums while away.

Jeff,
Last year Woodbine opened on March 31st and had nine 5f races on a 10 race card the other race was 5 1/2f. Looks like this is normal for this time of year.

Hi Jeff. Every year they have 4.5 f and 5 f races for the first 2 weeks of the season.
They sometimes throw in a 6f race.

The surest sign of Spring in my calendar! Every year when I lived in Toronto, I would look forward to the return of live racing to Woodbine as solace from the sometimes endless winters. It still looks a lot like winter up here a few hours north of the track, but my mood is already changing. Hoping to get down a few times in May!

Ted,
I know what that endless winter is like.
It seems like you will never see a green blade of grass again.
Here it has been in the around 85 to 90 every day and I have already used up over half of my jug of Round Up concentrate.
Me thinks you need to relocate.

P.S.
Thanks to RDSS and an old copy of Energy the Air Conditioning folks are supposed to come today.

Tim,I downloaded Woodbine for Sunday and there seems to be alot of layoff horses that havent run since Woodbine closed.Any suggestions on how to play the track with these layoff horses?Or do you prefer waiting till they have run over the course a bit before playing there. Thanks Jeff

Just about ALL of them are going to be layoffs. Play the dominant energy distribution for the distance based upon standards and be sure to check how the track is running.

Place-itis with big odds just tempting me to death as Great Blue in the nightcap on Friday just about killed me!

woodbine early: DO prefer trainers known to win off LO--there are a handful of trainers there who use the early part of the meet to make their season's profits; DO match up horses irrespective of recency; DO expect early horses, those Bradshaw is known to prefer, to win more than their share, despite the artificial surface; DON'T expect this to last; DO prefer horses with recent action IF they show a liking for the venue, although Aqueduct racing is cheap in the winter, and form from there does not transfer; DON'T expect great prices at the outset; DO make careful use of class criteria.
believe it or not, this is the most "formful" time at Woodbine, hence, it tends toward the chalkish; later, it gets A LOT more competitive, and a lot less accessible to past-performance, WYSIWYG kinds of handicapping.
course, that's when you make money.

Early tends to be KING all season just in varying amounts.

i absolutely disagree with this statement. in fact, several commentators at Woodbine, and the only good one, have stated stalkers are much more reliable bets--although this somewhat overstates the case, as each distance, class and age bracket has a unique profile.
however, it may be the races you select to play are early.

The track I played everyday for the last 6 years is energy distribution EARLY, not POSITIONALLY EARLY.
One of the best was the Plate several years running Earliest (2nd call) of the bunch. Thanks Emma Jean and Mike Fox in the 2007 running. As a matter of fact the top three 2nd calls went 1-2-3. Mike Fox, Jiggs and Alezzandro.

As hard as they have tried to live "up" to the promises the Polytrack people made to them, the track remains a speedy paradise. I know FOR A FACT, that the track had an agreement with the installers who had to come back twice to add "jelly cord" to the track to keep the kickback down. A lot of work went into this surface and it still remains speed favoring.
I just finished reading a Racing Post article about the new Grand Leighs course in England and they concluded the same thing about Polytrack.

I cannot recall seeing odds this high on the top three as in the 6th today in Toronto. 80/1,22/1, and 50-1 were the top three.

Out of curiosity, Tim, what was your return on investment at Woodbine last year? Your best year? Your worst year?

Hi Tim,I owe you an apology,I see now where the stuff you were telling me was for my own good. It's funny how after all that name calling we did back and forth that you turned out to be one of the more truthful guys on board.I wish you all the best in the future.Seems to me there are too many pros around here for a racing novice like me to deal with.Jeff
