Richie, or anyone,

What was the Hat's betting philosophy? Was he a one horse win bettor, multiple horse win bettor, exotic player? Given the respect Hat has always earned as a handicapper, I am very interested in a discussion of the Hat's bet structure, philosophy, etc. Thanks.

I'll chime in with what I know.

He bet one horse to win.

No exacta/trifectas of any kind

He bet pick 3's and if there were maiden races in the sequence on occasion he would use 2 horses in those races if he needed to. Over the last year all the maiden races being carded drove him nuts as he really devastated the non maidens Jim.

he would call me at times and ask which cards didn't have a ton of maidens so he could focus on them.
