Below is a link to My Space that will give you a brief tutorial of what to expect when using the sub-notebook PC.

This is my first try at something like this. I have been able to find a program that will make things crystal clear and will redo this video, hopefully over the weekend.
I have also done preliminary research on the different sub-notebooks that are available and will put this information out there shortly.

Description: Informational video showing that the program RDSS can run on a sub-notebook.
Excellent video. Thank you :) That looks like a real nice way to go
only using 2 panels is fine for me as I have been unable to use 3
on my laptop. It was nice to meet you at Saratoga.
Good skill

Unfortunately the program I attempted to use to clearup the blurriness does not allow for screen shifting. Hopefully what you can view will give you the main idea for using the sub-notebook.
I have also done preliminary research on the different sub-notebooks that are available and will put this information out there shortly.
Here are some of the vendors who have sub-notebooks on the market:
Sub-Notebooks
Things to look for: min 1.6ghz processor & 1gb Ram. SSD (solid state drives for longer battery life), Windows XP. Improvement in disk power usage can mean longer battery life with the standard drive now being made. Check them out.

Observations:
I have an eeePC therefore may be a little tilted in my thoughts. Sony to me is expensive and doesn’t offer a lot of choices. HP good solid machine but may lack available choices. Dell appears to have most of this covered plus when you go through their built your PC, they have a ton of extras that will bring up the costs significantly. eeePC began the whole thing and seem to be keeping their head in front of all.
Whatever you do, go to each and build a comparison list on the items you feel you will need. In that way you will compare apples to apples and see where the costs for each end up.
Also, when you do find the one you want, search the net to find the best price because the vendors making these never discount. Also I found that Best Buy has demo's in their stores so that you can get the real life touch and feel.
Good Luck

Thank very much Don for this research! As I mentioned to you, I will definitely test the next version of RDSS on such a computer (or a variety of them) to be sure the screen works optimally.

Hold off on those sub's.....for a couple of more bucks you can get a full size..
mike
it was just a matter of time till someone broke down on cheap laptops
there popping up all over..but they wont be speed deamons or dual cores but
for the price of a sub you can at least not use your glasses to see them

My main purpose for mentioning the sub-notebook is two reasons.
Portability (under 2lbs)
Battery Life (close to 6 hrs) Drives are solid state.

Sorry for the long long delay in responding. My unit is an EEEPC901. Mine came with a 4Gb C drive and an 8BG D Drive with an extra sd slot. I replaced the 8GB with a 32Gb SDD drive and placed an 8GB SD card in the extra slot.

Another report from the netbook trenches:
Hello from sunny Las Vegas 56 degrees today. Have been using RDSS and the netbook everyday in the racebook. Both are terrific. Love the colors. Have been playing the horses the traditional way since the 80's and have never been this successful. Trying to stop making bonehead mistakes. The computer is a Hewlett Packard 311-1000NR 11.6" HD screen, resolution 1366 x 768, XP operating system. They start at $399 on the HP website but purchased this one at Office Depot for $369 ... Much happier with the screen size, and the HD screen really makes a difference. Happy Holidays, Doug

Just wanted to thank everyone for there input. I ended up picking up the new asus 1201HAB. Its sold at best buy for $329. Some highlights are about 6-7 hours of battery life (perfect for belmont's lack of outlets), 1366 x 768 screen res on a 12" screen ( perfect for my average vision), and a ultra portable design. The only downside is it has a slowish z520 processor but its perfect as a trackside companion. You still can't quite get the 3 panel RDSS screen in full but everything else is perfectly sized. Any questions send me a PM.
