Three horses died on their watch. I understand they ignored expert advice on how to safely manage the horses. The episodes also just didn't hold my interest. I tuned out a while ago.

How do you let 3 horses die before you do something..
I'm sure there's other things evolved but we'll never find out...

This is why I never get into a new series before the 2nd season starts..

TV programs are going into a new direction and trying out well known stars to give them a boost
to jump each other...Good Luck!!!

One of the new shows that I love is Person of Interest staring Jim Caviezel , which I enjoyed most of his movies.
Yes, I abandoned my "never before 2nd season" here...:)

They really fumbled on this show. The first episode had too much racetrack info for the non-player and not enough character info. It was like being thrown into the middle of a conversation and with several characters mumbling their lines, it was difficult to follow the dialogue anyway.

They also started it at the wrong time of year - the second episode was up against the Super Bowl, the third opposite the Grammys and the fifth opposite the Oscars. Sure, there were subsequent airings during the week, but the media reports focus on the initial exposures and all they had to notice was a show that started poorly in the numbers and went downhill from there.

It would have been much better to start it in non-sweeps periods during March and April, maybe Triple Crown fever would have helped but even that's not too likely given the overall lack of interest in a sport with few superstars as far as the public is concerned.

You could safely wager that had the ratings been better, HBO and the producers would have found a way around the issue of related equine accidents. However, with a high production nut, rising insurance premiums, negative press and little if any backend potential for future cable sales or DVDs, this was an easy way out.
