The #5 Gagne was the only sustained horse in a race that I thought was loaded with speed. This horse had the best hidden energy and looked like he could come running in the stretch. In addition, he had a pattern on the segment screen that I always look for.27922

My heart has finally started beating again. The 6 pulls it out with the smallest of noses. Looked like he was beat but came back again.

The winner survived a bumping incident at the top of the stretch and proved to be much the best. Again, I used the segment screen as a strong confirmation. It showed the pattern I like. I thought maybe he would be too far back but he made a nice move late on the backstretch and continued it to the wire.

I took a chance on this race although there were three first time starters. The 2b took some early money but then became dead on the board. I don't usually bet horses at these low odds but I was pretty confident I had the winning horse. So much for that as the FTS #2b pulled away at the end.

The #3 horse showed the best late energy along with the top energy. He also showed the winning pattern for this race track in the segment screen. He won easily after coming thru on the rail at the top of the stretch.

I came up with the 7 horse right away with him being on top on most screens: lpp, total energy, segment screen and bl/bl. The second horse to bet was a choice between the 2 and the 5. I went with the 5 because it had the best hidden energy and was second best on the segment screen with a positive pattern. So of course, the 2 won with the 5 second.

I chose the two horses I did because both showed well on all the screens. The 6 was lower morning line odds so I put 60 on him and 40 on the other horse. The 1 horse won and paid $9.80. He was a sure winner at the 1/8th post but scared us by bearing out badly towards the finish line. But it all worked out as the entire field was barely able to stand up from exhaustion. The 5 came on late and split my two horses.

I felt very strongly that the #1 horse would run a very strong race. He had everything that I look for in a bet. I then proceded to look for a second horse. I chose the 5 because he was second on the segment screen and he had an even ranking in both early and late. Unfortunately, the third horse on the segment screen won the race and my horses finished second and third. If I had been able to bet the horse closer to post time, I probably would have backed up the 1 horse and collected $7.20 for place. Oh well.

I thought that this race was relatively easy to figure out. The 3 looked like a standout. The only major surprise was getting $6.30.

Hello Charlie

I'm sorry but I can not give you a win in this race
You posted Saratoga race 9
I would have notified you but there was no way I could know you wanted race 8
because I didn't have a screen shot.

I'm sorry but it if you meant race 9 It would be a loss as race 9 came in
16-6
So even if you meant race 8 I have your bet as a miss for not posted correctly
Im sorry I try to tell folks ahead of time but I didn't know

Thank you for the race results and another excellent post race review
I hope you had race 8 in real betting

Bill

Oh well that is what happens when one doesn't take the time to proofread. However, both horses were scratched so does that count as a non race? I did have it in real life. In fact, I gave out the late double in the Saratoga Special.

Yes since both of your horses were scratched in race 9 the race is a non starter

I tok a shot at beating the favorite, Winter Memories. I thought she might be compromised by the track condition. So I went with the best of the foreign horses on top and with the best American horse in second. However, Winter Memories got the first jump and Dream Peace was closing but ran out of room.

Again I was trying to beat a favorite. At this distance at Saratoga, according to my records, FX is very important. So I went with the two longest odds horses with top FX ( the third one being the favorite) and both also showed strong patterns on the segment screen.

I thought that the #6 had the best chance to win I went with two horses anyway to be on the safe side. The 2 horse had a even distribution between late and early, solid hidden and FX and a good pattern on the segment screen.

I liked the #1 and #2 but switched to the #4 and #7 because of the odds. Always trust your first instincts.

Finally I made a good decision. This race also points up the power of the segment screen. I never make a bet without there being a strong pattern on this screen. The #2 had a good pattern but came from too far back and never fired anyway.

The #1 was the favorite and I did not like him at all. So looking at the rest of the field, the #2 immediately jumped out at me. He was strong in the bl/bl and had a strong pattern in the segment screen. Now I looked for a second horse and the #9 was in the top three for both hidden energy and FX. At Saratoga, it pays to be near the front but you still need a finishing kick--especially on the grass. In addition, he was #2 on the segment screen.

This is a tale of how to talk oneself out of a $35 winner. First time handicapping the race I came up with the #4 and #6. These were 16-1 and 25-1 respectively. They both had everything required to win at PID and I was prepared to bet $60 win on the #4 and $40 win on the #6. Then I realized that the 2 and the 7 were an uncoupled entry trained by a friend of mine and shipping from Finger Lakes. After all, they ran well on the track previously and that is a long way to go for just a workout. The 7 is left at the gate and the 2 runs unusally fast early and tires dramatically in the stretch. Look at the result. Lesson: believe the program and don't get sentimental.

Came back to my senses here. When you fall off a horse, get right back on (no pun intended). My two picks fit the profile for this racetrack. I split the bet differently due to the discrepancy in odds and cost myself some money.
