Ted and I have decided on a ruling we feel is the best of all worlds This is still up for discussion but pending what we have as far as options this may be the way the hit rate rule will be applied beginning in the August RDSS "Learn To Win Contest"
Only 1 rule to define a HIT: is your overall bet profitable? Bet however you like, Win, Place 1 or 2 horses, wisely or foolishly; single a true Place contender, bet 2 horses to Place, $90 Win on A and $10 Place on B, whatever. It only increases your Hit Rate if the total payout that race is > $100. Period.
This way, we don’t tell people how to bet, they figure out for themselves what works and what doesn’t. And we’re not rewarding non-profitable betting strategies. We have checked everyone’s spreadsheet . We think ALL of the scenarios we have complained about, and all the people who are below breakeven, would be resolved if they were not rewarded with a hit if the Total Return in COL P is less than or equal to $100 (i.e. ROI should be positive).
Ted will make and post the official rules update when he returns from his vactation on Monday

This is very interesting, but I think may be going too far, as a hit, thou not always profitable, is still a hit.
I admit my strategy in my 25 w/p on 2 horses gives me a better chance to get a hit per race, than say a single 100 win or even place wager on 1 horse.
The same would be for a 50 Place wager on 2 horses, the same possible hit rate chance as my 25 w/p would be, except that my return might be higher.
You guys seem to suggest if we bet 100 in the race, which is what we do, that if the return is less than 100, we do not get a hit, like I have done quite a few times only hitting part of my wagers, and maybe getting 60.00 or so back on the race, sometimes even less, even on a win wager a few times, as it fell to near even odds, but I did pick the winner, a direct hit, no?
I am sure a few of us have played the way we did to get the most hits possible ( this being a major concern), and then hoped that we would profitable as a result (this being a minor concern) .
I agree ,if you are playing real money, profit is the true motivation for what we do, not hits, which is what 1/9 - 6/5 or so do, make you loser's with winning bets, unless you make 1 bet and hit enough.
If the contest is only about ROI, then hit rate should not be considered in the formula, but since it is currently, and being above 50% in the hit rate gets you a free month, then people adjust and wager accordingly, even if a 10.00 place bet gives them a hit, but definetly not breaking them even for the race, again , just my thoughts.
I am able to adapt to what ever we do for this contest, it is fun and I for one enjoy it, even if next month I hit 3 races out fo 20, because we know this happens in racing.

Hello Patrick
Ted may have been thinking with his heart more than his head when he offered
that prize of a 1 month extension for a hit rate over .500
We feel all this did was promote foolish betting.
Ted now has adjusted the way we will score races Its simple, If you don't show a profit over the $100
cost of your bet you get no hit. period
Neither one of us wants to bully people
Beginning in August, If you bet foolishly just to get a hit your out of luck.
The Learn To Win Contest is going to be a 2 prong scoring method
Bank roll X Hit rate = Contest Score The prize of a 1 month RDSS extension may or may not be offered again,
That is Teds call . But if it is, contestants will have to earn it this time. If the contest rules and goals
are unacceptable than people can just choose to not participate.
These rules are in place with one goal, to help you. We feel if people are honest and try and dedicate themselves to make proper bets they will earn the offered prizes.
Is it better to work hard and build your self esteem and confidence. Won't those earning a prize make them better handicappers in real life ?
We can't be bullies We need to behave in the adult and also the child and the little
professor If we truly want to WIN

Hello Folks,
We've decided to go with a simple definition of Hit Rate for August, which is described in the August Contest Rules Changes (http://paceandcap.com/forums/showpost.php?p=81981&postcount=2).
Simply: you get a Hit if your bet makes money. If you break even or if you lose money over all your bets in a given race, you do get the money for your Bankroll, but no Hit. Hit Rate above 50% (.500) gets you a Bankroll 'Consistency' Bonus.
Please see the Official Rules (http://paceandcap.com/forums/showpost.php?p=81980&postcount=1) and the Changes Summary for complete details, or to ask for any clarifications.
Please join the Contest, win $$$ Prizes, learn, teach - enjoy the fantastic tools and community we have here!
yours,
Ted
