This is just a casual kind of thread I want to start to ask all of you, what is your favorite track to play?
Ive always loved the New York tracks except on days with lots of young maiden races, or days when It pours down rain. Ive really ben focused on just Saratoga usually, and after working some races from FInger Lakes with my mentor ive realize, I need to spread my play in order to achieve the success I am striving for.
So, whats your favorite track to play, and which one would you most recommend for me to start taking seriously with my models and wagering.

I've found that I have to look at several tracks, given as you say that there are a lot of short fields, 2 year olds and maidens. I know a lot will disagree, but I look at Arlington, Finger Lakes, Parx, for the moment Saratoga, Delaware and Suffolk if I'm playing during the day, and Presquile and Indiana if at night. I don't do any race that has less than a field of 8, nor maidens unless there are three or more lines for everyone and I don't do Turf, so I often have to look at a number of racks to find one of two races that are playable under my criteria. In these days of low odds, you are able to pick up some nice prices at all of these tracks. If you play a track you should start a model for it. IMHO.:)
I like to play Parx ,Finger Lakes and Aqu. Also will play Bel or Saratoga when they don't have a lot of mdns and turf races carded.

Can you explain this a little more?
Good point Barb on starting a model for tracks you play. I also will play Churchill,Gulfstream and Suffolk in addition to trks listed above.

Barb thank you for you input. Yes I agree with you when you say you should model, I am a FIRM believer in the model. Its really what I rely on the most. I have a model right now for Saratoga and when I realized I nee to spread my plays more I began to try to think of a track that I would enjoy playing but also has good quality. That's why I came to the site and asked everyone, I wanted to know what everyone else has found to be a good thing.
One question I want to ask, no one has mentioned Calder nor Ellis park.
Does anyone have an opinion on either of these tracks

You can play these tracks blindly if you want, but as I said IMHO you need to find out what's working at each track. When we used to get all the information in RDSS1, I not only had a model for each track, but also for each distance and surface at those tracks. When Ted gets that up and running in RDSS2, I'll start that again. Right now I find it's too time consuming to do more than put the figures in for each track although I feel it's not as accurate.

You folks (I almost typed guys )
You all give great advice :)
I think Barb said it well, that is to look around, but have 1 track were you have a model.
I have my total focus on Parx They run all year and they run a good mix of
4 sprint and 3 route distances. I look at and model every race every day from Parx.
I then will look at other tracks for their higher class races, Stakes and handicaps are races I seem to do well at
so I look at them all.
Bill
Parx has always been a good trk to play. I have done very well there. It also gives me the most races to play since they card very few mdn and turf races daily compared to NY. Finger Lakes is also very good for playable since they have no turf racing.

I just started capping in the spring so I was playing Belmont. After LT1 starting teaching me, I avoid Belmont like the plague lol. I think the track with the least amount of variables is the track to play. So for me; Parx, Finger Lakes and Mountaineer. FL only has one surface, makes for great model keeping. Parx and Mnr have few turf races so this also makes for better model keeping
NYRA tracks have 3 different surfaces and too many MND races.

during the DMR and SAR meet i will play these tracks as both are "dime a day" tracks "bet $10.00 WPS on a selection, 1 bet each track each day" and if the horse wins and the pay out is the tops for the day, and you are the only "high payout" then you win $1000.00 along w/ your winnings. so far though i've hit twice at DMR but alas had to share it w/ 9 and 16. $62.50 the second hit.

Penn National has also been left out. Another year around track. They are just a short ride down I-80 from PARX, so there are many trainers that ship back and forth between those two tracks.
Hey FTL and Bill I've noticed that very few horses shipping from Penn to Parx win with the exception of horses from the Beattie clan. How do Parx shippers do AT pENN

Overall, horses shipping from PRX to PEN fair better then horses shipping from PEN to PRX.
If you were classifying tracks, PRX would be a notch above PEN.

I am not familiar with the modeling process. What steps are involved in modeling (and why)?

These are the factors I model for Parx - I do this for every race every day
1 Date
2 Race #
3 Distance
4 Surface
5 Race Type example Cl 7.5 N2-L
6 Age - Sex
Then I record these factors from the pace line I used for the winning horse
1 Early Late readout
2. Primary Line score
3. Supp Line score
4. Total Energy rank
5.BLBL Line score
6. BLBL rank
7. VDC rank
8. POR rank
9. Total Pace rank
10 The Morning line of the horses I bet
11. The final odds of the winner
12 The final odds of the two horses I bet
13 My Results Win Loss
14 The winner
15 The winners payout
16 Notes about the race Example - Pass only 1 horse had a usable paceline
17 The Winners APV
18 The winners win percentage
19. my profit /loss for the race
It all looks like this
Here is race 1 today from Parx
8/4/13 1 D 6 MC 10 3 + F 17 7 4 1 24.5 1 1 1 1 0.00 0.00 1.60 0.00 0.00 N 0 Pass only 1 horse had a usable pace line ( why not maidens ) 51 0-4 0
My model consist of trk condition, field size, date of race, race condition, ep.lp.cpr,fw,fx rankings for sprints and drop fx for routes and price pd. I keep separate models for fast and off tracks. This will show you based on your handicapping what factors are producing winners at your track.

Don't forget about Canada the big WO runs for 9 months. then there are Hst an Np which only run dirt an are bullring tracks mostly 6.5 an 8.5 furlongs the fields are short but you find some good prices. Shippers from Np to Hst don't do as well from my experience just like prx an penn. oh an don't forget about CT. Too be honest I don't think tracks are good or bad it's just our attitude about them.
