In speculator, one can just change the distance to 10 furlongs. Works well.

I will add that 'change distance' feature to RDSS. (Software still should not crash...)

Ted,
I don't know if anyone is having this issue but under WinXP Pro SP2 after I analyze a race when I click to analyze another race, RDSS unloads itself and I have to restart it again. It saves the race that I have analyzed so no issue with that. On my laptop where I run Vista since it came with it (ouch!) it works fine. I think this may be a memory allocation issue by RDSS but not sure. I have 1GB DDRAM on my WinXP Pro machine and have no issues whatsoever with other programs. The machine runs usually with 500MB of free ram before RDSS is loaded up and looking at the windows manager I see that RDSS takes about 135KB of RAM to run..Maybe more information than you need but hopefully it will be helpful..I was never able to analyze 2 races sequentially without RDSS not quitting on me after the first race analyzed. Thanks for the great work on RDSS!

this screen shot happens on both systems xp & vista, both with 1.5gb ram, when switching back and forth between races on the same card.

It happens when i'm connected to bris wagering, or just doing races inrdss.

I don'y lose any data, you just haveto keep restarting the program

Tom, yep, that's a good example of Bug #1 (see the bug list), the part about switching between races on the same card. Again, sorry, you should close the card, then open to the new race. This is nearly fixed, but I'll release another update with smaller stuff first, (in the next day or so). Then that one. Please bear with...

(BTW, hope you had a piece of that race, nice $20 mutuel:))

Thanks,

Projected and extracted raw times

Ted:
1. For comparison purposes on the "Analysis-Original" screen is it possible to show the data for horses that will need to be either extracted or projected. Perhaps a split screen below the raw data that shows the extracted and/or projected time at today's distance?

2. I suppose one could even go further and adjust each raw data line for distance (much like the 'pacelines' upper screen in spec 160, but without any other adjustments). In keeping with Matchup guidelines the adjustments would be at 6-2/5ths per half furlong. This conceptually might add a screen between the "raw" and "adjusted" panels, but it would close the visual gap for those MATCHING the raw pacelines.

Bill, I replied in the RDSS Questions a & Answers Forum here since this is more of a 'feature suggestion' than a bug.

New edition comments:
note that first time starters show no works and that the screen that appears is not formatted the same as for workouts included for other runners.

Ted Craven 03-19-2007 07:55 AM

Thanks Bill. Here is the Bug List item I added for that:

(18) Workouts for First time Starters. Workouts appear to not display, and the screen header is different from the normal Workout screen. The Workout screen does not ‘track’ with other screens when you change horses and in fact, no tab is initially selected in the 2nd panel when displing a FTS

Workaround: Click on the Workout tab when you are displaying a FTS horse and the workouts will appear.

(gotta have a conversation with that QA department...)

Bill Lyster points out that the Original Speed Rating (i.e. the one supplied from TrackMaster) showing on the Adjusted Screen is not the same as the Original Speed Rating showing on the Original Screen (both Past Performance and Analysis screens). In Versions up to V0.96.1, what is showing on the Adjusted Screen is the Winner's SR, while what is showing on the Original Screen is the Horse's SR. They should be identical.

For the next testing update, I have modified the Adjusted screen to correct that. During the testing phase only, I also added the TrackMaster SR as shown on Spec160 and as shown on Val2006 (for those doing Validator compatibility testing), so you can see how the numbers compare. In Spec and Val, the Daily Track Variant (DTV) is removed from the raw TrackMaster SR and each program computes the net SR a bit differently. In my view, the resulting net (TrackMaster) SR on both Spec and Val bounces around a lot more than the raw TrackMaster SR with the DTV included. That's why I chose to simply show (on the Original and Adjusted screens) the raw TrackMaster SR, as it gives a better view of the range of a horses final time ability, factoring in supposed speed of the track on a given day (i.e. DTV).

Hi Ted,
I installed the update sat and then tried converting multiple files from different tracks without waiting for each card to complete. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME i TRIED THIS.
I tried to high light all the cards to be converted at one track, but couldn't get that to work. So I would click on the card click open, click update, and thenhit F12 and do the same thing for all the the cards at that track, then the next track and so forth. screen shot of error included.
shutdown program and restart, the card comes up but no info on the races as before, also half or more of the horses show no past performances. I have 3 0r 4 different screen shots if this one doesn't help.

Tom,

The error messages indicates to me something to the effect that while multiple cards were queued up to convert, one convert window closing caused another pending convert window to lose necessary data, so it choked. Originally (2 years ago) I never wrote this conversion routine to queue it up to run multiple separate convert windows like you (and I and others) do now - I just gradually discovered that it worked and it was convenient to start them all running then walk away.

Tip: When running multiple concurrent Conversions, as an alternative to hitting F12 to return to the Desktop to click the Convert button again, you should be able to open new Convert windows by clicking the 'Convert TM' Toolbar icon, or using the shortcut key Ctrl-T.

I suspect your problem stems from the attempt to do several cards from a single track, each in separate convert windows. You should be able to select multiple cards for one track then click 'Open' to queue them all up and start running in the current convert window. The selected cards for that track begin with the last one selected and you don't click Update to start converting the queued cards - they just start converting. (See the screenshot below). If a card fails to convert (as evidenced by not being able to interact with it normally, or an error message), just convert it again - by itself. Try converting multiple cards for a single track (i.e. not multiple cards in multiple concurrent convert windows). If you continue to have problems with that, please let me know. I'm not going to put too much work into this convert module if we can get it to perform its job one way or the other.

When I rewrite this module (before final release), I'll do a few things differently, but with batched/queued processing in mind. And like the download module, and the individual race calculations, you can schedule it overnight.

Tom,

To highlight multiple cards from a single track, start by clicking on a single card so it is highlighted. Then hold down the SHIFT key and click on a 2nd card, then a 3rd, etc. As you click on subequent cards, with the SHIFT key down, more files will be highlighted and when you finally click 'Open' they will all begin to convert.

In that file selection window, you can use the drag and 'lasso' technique you describe (in an attempt to highlight multiple files by mouse), but you must start by clicking on WHITE space, not on a particular file. If you click on a file you will merely 'drag' that file and the effect of 'dropping' it somewhere in that selection window will be to extract the contents of it (a self-extracting archive file), which accounts for the unwanted DBF files. (You can delete those files at your leisure, i.e. all the files which don't look like TAMmmddR.exe)

I recommend you use the SHIFT+click technique to select multiple cards. Again, I'm rewriting this module...)

Richie, my OP, PHA and WO (for example) cards look normal for 3/31 (in RDSS, Spec, Val). Can you send me a couple of them in a ZIP. You're saying you're selecting OP for 3/31 from the selection window and what is opening up ready for you to Convert is MNR??

Yes Ted but everything is ok now. I deleted my whole trkmast folder when I saw the same thing happened when opening a file in val. Figured the folder was just too darn overloaded with cards and "thrdr" stuff

so I deleted EVERYTHING -reimported todays cards from TM and everything is working great.

It was NOT an RDSS issue but a " Richie" issue

Richie

Ted Craven 03-31-2007 01:44 PM

Richie,

Ummm, OK, glad it's working. Just a reminder that RDSS makes no use of the TRKMAST folder (other than to copy downloaded PP files there if you tell it).

Really?

Thats weird cause when I update cards I always use the trkmast folder and double click the card and "update" them Ted.

Thats the procedure I have been using since day 1. So today that same procedure caused the hangup on Mnr 0331. I went and deleted the whole trkmast folder-grabbed the cards again fomt TM website- started re"updating" from the TM folder and it works fine

I take it back. This bug causes the whole race card to be unusable. Apologies for that, and I'll look into it ASAP, but TAM today (April 1) is a write-off for RDSS.

Glad you reported that. I was going to download today. Looking instead at GP and SA. Both of those cards downloaded and processed fine, as info.

kahunab 04-07-2007 02:16 PM

Ted,
Yesterday I played GP and KEE. I was able to work around the bugs and had good data. 5 times the program shut down and I got the error message and the request to send an error report to Microsoft. The first time occurred when I tried to open both tracks at the same time. As you have stated before everything worked fine as long as I only had one track open at a time. I was playing on the internet, and the other 4 shutdowns occurred when I would switch back and forth to my web browser. I was using Mozilla Firefox as my browser. Do I need to use Internet Explorer? I also found that it works better if one converts one file at a time rather than try to do more than one at a time. Do love the program, the layout is great. allows one to do the MatchUp process quickly. Easy to work. The picture one gets of the race is great.

Ted Craven 04-07-2007 02:27 PM

KahunaB,

Sigh, I'm rounding the bend on those problems with the software dying - next release should see it fixed. As far as I can see, the crash should not relate to your browser: I use primarily FireFox myself. Let's try that browser test again with the next update.

Glad you like it for the Match Up, more to come...

Bug Report

Hi Ted,

I played over the internet today. I played KEE and MNR. Had lots of crashes today jumping back and forth to my web browser. One item that I may have missed in other reports was that as I opened a new race if I didnt wait for the race to process completely before I tried to scratch a horse it would crash immediately.

Other than the crash problem it worked very well. It really has improved my ability to do the match up.

Dick :)

Couldn't figure out what hierarchy is. Per your example in bug list. I deleted the bad cards, for 4/15, Haw,Gp, Kee, and Tam 4/16, from both trkmtr file and the convert window, and redownloaded and converted, all worked except Tam 4/16 which shows bug #16. Missing first seven races.

I was checking 3 or 4 races on each card on the side to make sure it downloaded ok I wasn't actually marking any horse.

How do you attach more than one screen shot?

JimG 04-16-2007 02:10 PM

Isn't that the same horse wherein his workouts caused the bug the last time he ran?

Jim

Ted Craven 04-16-2007 03:37 PM

Tom

Check my email around noon EST today to the RDSS Testing Group wherein I updated the software download to Version 0.96.2d to address this very bug.

You need to download and install today's version. Unfortunately, as I described in the email, if you already tried to Convert TAM 04/16 your database will have erroneous values related to races for that card which cannot be solved by re-doing the Conversion with today's update. Sorry. But it will workaround this problem in the future, until I get that Bug #16 solved (same damn horse: ECOUTEZ REPETEZ).

If you really want to work TAM today, you can rename your database file to something else (c:\rdss\data\DATA.DB), make a copy of the EMPTY.DB file you see in the \data\ folder and rename the copy to DATA.DB and copy that file back to the \data\ folder (effectively wiping out your database and starting clean). Then you can update TAM 04/16 and though you will get a message about that horse during Conversion, this time you should be able to open and handicap the race (but the workouts for that horse will not be up to date).

Afterwards, if you want to retain your original database, just copy it back over the clean (temporary) one you used today for TAM. (However, don't get too attached to your database contents at this stage, because there's a future update which will re-organize the database thus wiping out all data anyway...)

Hope this helps!

Ted

Ted Craven 04-16-2007 03:40 PM

Current RDSS version is 0.96.2d

Dear Testers,

Just to clarify, as of noon EST today Monday April 16, the current version of RDSS is 0.96.2d, which replaces 0.96.2 from Sunday April 15.

Just download using the same link, then update. Check your Main RDSS window title to be sure you have the latest version.

Tom,

What I do sometimes is create a 'montage' of screenshots, by using a Word document (or blank Outlook mail message with Word as my email editor). After I create the montage, I then take another screen capture of the whole works, save it as a file, then attach that file. (Somethimes, I put graphic files on my own website, and put inline links to those URLs in a post here).

For example, this is an inline reference to another URL (use Insert Image in the message editor):

http://www.artofpace.com/rdss/screen...sts/forego.gif

while what follows below is a simple attachment, of which you can have only 1, the way Pace and Cap is currently configured.

multiple conversions

1 Attachment(s)
Hi Ted,

Just me again, I converted about 80 or 90 cards at once. Everything was going fine until the Tam 4/16 card with our favorite horse popped up with bug 16. I clicked on it to continue and it did, but I lost the lists on the side, and then it would alternate between blank screens and regular screen with the missing lists on the side.
when al were finally converted, about a hour and a half, all the cards seem to be there and convered properly including the tam card. This is on the XP system.
