RDSS Problems Connecting to TrackMaster – June 1, 2017

I am getting a msg that trackmaster is temp unavailable when trying to display available cards. I called trackmaster and they told me everything is fine and that it's a RDSS issue. RDSS keeps retrying every 15 sec (for about 3 hours now) with no success. I have restarted software (several times) and tried only displaying 1 card but nothing.

Any suggestions?

Thx

Lt1 06-01-2017 10:08 AM

I've been having the same problem since 530 this morning.
Tim G

Bill S 06-01-2017 10:16 AM

I just tried it at 10:20AM EST and was able to see all the available cards.

Raine05 06-01-2017 11:53 AM

Bill, were you able to download and convert as well?

It still isn't able to display to get to next step yet.

Ted Craven 06-01-2017 12:45 PM

Hi, I just downloaded and converted a number of cards for today - no problems.

RDSS can't distinguish between

a) connecting to the internet and NOT being able to connect to Trackmaster, and
b) not being able to connect to the internet at all.

It will give the same error message in either case, though if you can connect to anything else, we can rule out b)

TrackMaster is definitely accessible by RDSS at this moment (and in my experience has a greater than 99.99% up time). So it's usually something on our end.

Raine05 and others - please try again now and let me know if all is well now.

Ted

Lt1 06-01-2017 01:06 PM

Ted as of 105pm still having the problem.
Tim

Bill S 06-01-2017 01:47 PM

Raine05:

Yes I was able to download and convert.

I downloaded a card for PARX at 1:45PM EST and it worked fine.
Downloaded and converted.

When I have had trackmaster problems in the past, it was usually a problem with my password. Sometimes the password changes for no reason. I call and have them reset it and then everything works fine again.

So Cal Al 06-01-2017 02:07 PM

Same download problem

I have had the same download issue for 2-3 days. Called and talked to TM and that error code went away, but I got a new problem as a result. I get an error that my user name and password are wrong. Of course, it is the same name and password that is auto entered

Ted Craven 06-01-2017 02:43 PM

I moved this thread from the RDSS 2.1 Testing Forum to this Public forum in case anyone else is having this problem.

I talked to Tim G (Lt1) and connected to his computer. He indeed cannot login to TrackMaster to download race cards, and the issue is not incorrect UID or PWD or expired or declined credit card. I was able to make RDSS work on my computer using HIS credentials. This issue is NOT on TrackMaster's end - it's on each individual computer.

The issue for him - and for anyone else reporting not being able to download normally - is some kind of changed setting in the Windows Firewall, not permitting RDSS to login to a UID/PWD controlled website (i.e. TrackMaster).

So, Raine05 and SoCal Al - this almost certainly describes your situation as well (however, many other users ARE downloading successfully today).

I would ask you to go to your Windows Control Panel, System and Security - then in the Windows Firewall section, look for a link to 'Allow an App through Windows Firewall'. This will display a listing of 'Allowed apps and features'. Scroll the list looking for RDSS Racing Decision Support System. If it's not there, click the Change Settings button, then 'Allow another App button'. Click Browse to browse to the location of the RDSS program (either on folder c:\rdss2 or c:\rdss2.1 program: rdss2.exe - depending on which version you are using). Click to select the RDSS2 program and add it to the list, then click Add.

Now close the Windows Firewall window, shut down your computer, restart it and restart RDSS2. See if that worked.

If not - so far I am out of ideas :(:( I will try a few other local computers to see if I can duplicate this problem and try to get clues and suggestions.

Another idea if the above does not work is to try to 'roll back' your computer to a previous setup where everything worked.

I will report further ... Sorry for this unexplained glitch!

Ted

This did not fix the problem.

Trackmaster changes our passwords sometimes. I don't even think they know how it happens. It's not happening in RDSS. I have had problems like this several times during the past few years.

I call them and have the password reset, then I can connect and download again. It happened one time too when my credit card expired and I forgot to update the new expiration date. The error was the same as the other time though.

Ted Craven 06-01-2017 03:07 PM

I just got off the phone with Trackmaster/Equibase top tech guy.

There was an update to the SSL security certificate on their server May 30. Everyone who has applied the latest Windows Updates for their version of Windows should have a Windows security certificate change in effect which solves this problem (or never exposes them to this problem). RDSS uses a rather older method for connecting securely to download TrackMaster data, and until now, this older method caused no trouble.

So - the current advice is: Update your version of Windows to apply all the latest updates available. (Any Windows XP users may have problems ...)

I am going to test something on someone's computer known to have a problem to see if doing this solves things and will report back - or anyone trying that can report back here please.

More soon ...

Ted

clore1030 06-01-2017 03:36 PM

I've had the problem all day. Wasn't that concerned early as I only saw two races and of them, the first was at 336pm.

By 230pm I was concerned, called Trackmaster, they couldn't figure it out, transferred me to tech, no answer there and could not leave a message. So, I called back and they told me to come here.

I've followed your suggestions re the firewall, Windows Update (none required), rebooted - still have the same problem.

Ted Craven 06-01-2017 03:43 PM

I am testing with one RDSS user whether applying all outstanding Windows Updates (particularly those related to 'Security') solve the problem.

I will report here. Meanwhile - please do update your version of WIndows to see if that solves the problem, and let us know.

FWIW, I have tested a Windows 10 and Windows Vista machine in my office, both of which get Windows updates applied regularly, and both of which work normally downloading Trackmaster data today.

I updated my desktop, still having the same problem.

I took a small update yesterday morning on my PC, that is probably the problem. I had no problems downloading a card 2 days ago.

My tablet is having the same problem, and i haven't used it since last October.

Thanks Gil. Just waiting for a report from one other user updating Windows 7 to see how reliable a solution this, before getting back to TrackMaster Tech.

Can I ask what version of Windows you just applied the updates for (your Desktop).

Thanks.

Ted

FYI - update to above - I'm running Win 7 and still have the problem.

Do you mean - still having the problem AFTER APPLYING ANY PENDING WINDOWS UPDATES, per http://paceandcap.com/forums/showpos...4&postcount=15 ?

Ted

Hoof 11 06-01-2017 04:04 PM

Windows 7 Ultimate on my desktop.

Windows 8.1 on my tablet.

Ted

Yes, I've done all suggested above. Each step. I'm on auto-update for Windows but did a manual check through Control Panel and it told me that no updates were required.

Ted Craven 06-01-2017 04:17 PM

Thanks Gil and clore!

One question more please - could you open your Internet Explorer browser (not any other browser, just Internet Explorer please), go to the Help/About menu item and tell me the Version of Internet Explorer running on your computers.

This info will help TrackMaster answer a question.

Thanks, standing by ...

Ted Craven 06-01-2017 04:48 PM

Thanks Gil.

Could anyone else having this problem, who has updated their particular version of Windows with the latest updates for that version (no need to update from say Win 7 to Win 10 if you don't want to) - please check their version of Internet Explorer and report it here.

Please see the above post for how to find your Internet Explorer version (http://paceandcap.com/forums/showpos...4&postcount=24).

Ted - my IE (which I never use, I'm a Firefox person) says exactly the same as Hoof's does.

Thanks! Nobody uses IE - as a browser (I hope)! However, it is a core component of Windows and provides internet access services behind the scenes to various Windows components, and to RDSS.

I'll get back ASAP on a fix for this. Again, sorry everyone for the trouble. I am working with TrackMaster to fix it.

You know what they say:

"Internet Explorer: the best browser to use to download another browser."

Firefox didn't even have 3% of the browser market when I moved over from Netscape.

TM download problem

Ted and all:
I don't use IE either although it is installed. In any event, as I mentioned in my email to Ted, the problem has finally been resolved. RDSS2 was down 3 days for me. Fortunately, it was earlier in the week when most of the tracks that I play are dark.

Raine05 06-01-2017 07:16 PM

I just got home, started RDSS and it downloaded no problem! It is now in the process of converting...so it appears, at least for me, to be up and running again.

Hope everyone else has same luck!!!

Ted, thx for looking into problem.

Hoof 11 06-01-2017 07:22 PM

I just downloaded a card, and everything seems to be resolved, cool.

Thanks Ted.

Lt1 06-01-2017 07:34 PM

I also just downloaded successfully. Thanks Ted for you hard work.
Tim

clore1030 06-01-2017 07:39 PM

Thanks for whatever you did because tomorrow's card is downloading.

Ted Craven 06-01-2017 09:10 PM

I still have to hear from TrackMaster Tech, but I suspect they reset some security setting for now and we'll have to deal with it later (presumably on a scheduled basis ;) ).

Good luck everyone! VERY SORRY for the downtime the past few days :(

If I remember correctly, when I got that kind error from Trackmaster a few months ago it was because my credit card expired. After I updated it then it worked again.
