A Odds Gold
A neat feature that I didnt know about but Houndog turned me onto it.After you get down to your contenders if you print the pp's only those horses will be printed. It sure makes it easier to look at the race that way if you are used to the DRF.Jeff

Hi Shoe, Im still working with the help file with aodds gold98 here and it has a feature where you can freeze the paceline of a horse(s) that you consider a non factor yet whos running style can still have an outcome on the pace.
Interesting stuff. Best Doug |
Auto-Block
Do any of you work with the Auto-Block feature? With a little local knowledge of your racetrack and shippers you can set up Aodds to automatically Block pacelines coming from that track. For instance Blocking TUP lines for Del Mar races. It seems like a nice feature to me.

Hiya Hound, no not yet on the auto but I can certainly see where it has its uses. Like you stated it seems best to use when you do have some local track knowlege. Im interested in the super/mega check after of course selecting the proper pacelines, sure looks interesting.

All:
You are mentioning a few of the reasons I have been using Aodds Gold 98 for years. Gary |
Hi Gary, Yes I now can understand why you use 98gold. Randy K. put alot of thought in this program. I told him even though he is noi longer selling nor providing support that I thought this program was years ahead of its time.
I made a hardcopy of the entire help file as there are so many ways to set up how one can use this. Still working on it so hopefully I wont bother you with questions that are covered in the manual:)) take care Doug |
Doug:
I am always happy to help where I can be of assistance. Please ask any question you want and I will do my best to answer. Gary |
Hi All,
I have used WorkHorse Pro for years, also written by Randy Kovach, and am familiar with Aodds Silver. I never got a chance to try Aodds Gold 98. Can somebody give me some info on how to possibly acquire it? Thanks in advance. Jim I accidentally posted this erroneously in the Hat's area. Apologies for the double posting. |
Thanks Gary:) As i said Ill do my best first to read and review first before asking. Again thanks alot!!
Interesting sideline here, at Horsemans park here in Omaha, ( home of the once great Ak-Sar-Ben and the burial site of the great horse Omaha, the horse is still there but they have no clue where even when they were doing the demo!) they had a race yesterday and the starting gate (tractor died LOL) was stuck after the horses were off! No injurys but the all wagers were refunded as at the end the entire field ran thru a 10 foot space! Im sure this will be on the news as well as the many race sites. Again thanks so much Doug |
Aodds Gold (Version 5 DOS) & Energy Correlation
Has anyone found any of the readouts in Aodds to correlate with the major fields from Energy? I mean back then when the program was written most likely the Hat would have had to disguise some of the numbers so that they didn't look like Sartin numbers, but most likely some of them are just a scaled version of an already successful Sartin formulas. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree and we all know the formulas in Energy work so some of these readouts will most likely have been reused. For Instance in Energy we have the MUV, Total Energy, %Median & UXR. Has anyone figured out how these relate to the Aodds fields PP+, Aodds+, TS, V/R, ESR, LSR, TSR? Here is where I am going... looks like in most cases Aodds gets the job done without ever having to use Energy. What I am trying to say is most of the time Energy will not get you a horse that Aodds missed and tends only to confuse the decision making process. I am trying to get to the point where I trust Aodds exclusively and to do this requires that I understand how the various Aodds readouts relate to one another. Keeping in this line of thought... 1). Is there an Aodds readout that works like %Median that can be used to eliminate horses who's are over or under the model? 2). What reading is equivalent to Energy's MUV & UXR? 3). What readouts in Aodds are worth modeling? I realize that that these questions would be better put to Jim or Randy, but Jim would just most likely say... Don't worry about it and just use it if it works. |
Dear Joe:
I would really like to help with Aodds Gold Version 5 but I am not familiar with it. I do see some correlation between Aodds Gold 98 and Energy. However, I do not think that Aodds can be used instead of Energy. I look at Aodds as a contender/paceline selection process and Energy as a decision making process. Gary |

As you may know, I've recently had some great success with both these programs. |
Dear Partsnut:
I am thrilled to hear that you had some success with the programs. I find that they are very consistent for me. I have started attending handicapping contests this year and find that I almost always finish in the top 5-10%, sometimes better, using Aodds Gold 98 for contender and paceline selection and then sending the data to Energy II for decision making. This weekend I will be at Keeneland. Gary |

In regards to the DOS & Windows version of Aodds it appears the readouts are the same. I think the only real difference is the Windows version can produce models, do you use this portion of the program? If so, just what is being modeled. This program is not for everyone but it clearly fits with my belief system & comfort level while providing me with a greater level of confidence when wagering, I don't know if it gets any better then that. Thanks again for all of your comments, I am still learning and need all the insight I can get. JoeLong. |
Hi Joe, I have both the dos and the windows versions of this. In fact I have the dos up now on my old laptop. Maybe I can help you on this one. There was an automolder with the 5.5 dos but I take it that you dont have it. If that is the case get out the paper (or spreadsheet) and try this. On the Aodds contender screen record the rankings for the top 5 in the pp+/aodds+/prc and the line score. Then go to the final handicapping screen and record the v/r /esr/lsr /tsr and finally the ls. Of course seperate all this by distance and surface for the track(s) that you are working. After doing ten to say 15 races with this you should notonly start beiing able to get the top 4 or five contenders but also look for the top 2 in each catagory.
As far as othe other programs go, back in the old days we we did this with t mation, exdc and all the old programs. I used to copy from the gold to quad rater. Hope this helps Doug |
Dear Joe:
There is no question in my mind that Aodds uses all or most of the concepts from Energy. I think Aodds is brilliant in many regards, especially projecting the time of the race. I find the projected pace times to be very accurate in most cases and I rarely change the projected times. I use the past performance section of Aodds Gold 98 exclusively for my paceline selection. I change the selected paceline probably about 20% of the time. I think Aodds Gold 98 uses Matchup concepts to the max. Even has all of the tandem races identified. However, I do not think that Aodds necessarily replaces Energy. I know that I can usually determine what Energy will say from an analysis of the Aodds screens, such as velocity. I always have Energy up and running at the same time as Aodds. However, I frequently know what Energy will say from looking at the Aodds screens. I usually go to Energy to double check. Gary |
Dear Joe and Dugout:
I do model every race automatically in Aodds. There is no question that the virtual paceline almost always has the highest percentage of winners in the top 5 out of all the screens. That may be the most consistent single screen when compared to any other screen of all racing computer programs. Gary |
Have any of you applied what you see in A Odds to any of the newer programs? If so what approach would you take in doing so lets say using Val3 as an example.

I was wondering if anyone has tried saving pacelines in the Quad-Rater format and try to load them in VALIDATOR manual entry as an example. This doesn't really answer your question, but was just curious about that aspect. As far as trying to match numbers from different programs I really don't know for sure. I prefer to let programs stand on their own merits, but of course someone else may be able to see correlations between the 2 that I can't. |
Morning Gary, Interesting about the virtual screen, the gent who was the beta tester for randy told me the same thing. Sounds like a corrolary to me:)
Best, Doug |
