Follow Up On Rmaths' 4 Number System
Richie and I would talk daily about our selections and how he used the 4 number approach. The main factor was that horses having all 4 numbers[with at least 1 #3 rank] were winning between 85 to 90% of the races. Richie had and extensive data base. Since his untimely passing there hasn't been much in the way of follow ups on the approach. With this in mind I decided to conduct another 100 race survey. The tracks involved were Parx, MVR,LRL, and GP. The survey included all class levels[mdns to Stks] of the races I capped. Here are the results
Winning Horses with all 4 #s[with at least 1 #3 ranking] 80 of 100 Winning Horse with all 4 #s[no #3 ranking] 6 of 100 Winning Horses with 3 #s[regardless of rankings] 9 of 100 Winning Horse with 2 #s 2 of 100 Winning Horses with 1 # 2 of 100 Winning horse with 0 #s 1 of 100 So folks 86% of my winners had all 4 numbers and 9% had 3 numbers. In my humble opinion that's a pretty powerful stat and validates all of Richies' hard work and unselfish sharing of the info. I suggest that folks also read his longshot play approach. Tim |
Should have added the minimum field size was 8.

You are welcome but all the credit goes to my late friend Richie Mathie. He was such a caring and sharing person and of course a great capper. Doc. acknowledged him several times in the F/U by posting several of his many signers from MNR where he was known as the computer guy. We suffered a great loss with his passing.

Thanks Tim for the update

You are welcome Jeff.

Good stuff, Tim.
Always pays to re-validate from time to time, to either make adjustments or fuel your confidence. |
Thanks Tom.
Tim |
Tim, was your information as it relates to CSR just as it comes originally from RDSS or do the ratings numbers for CSR reflect an occasional need to recalculate based on one or more bad races in the last four running lines.
Thanks, |
Hi Bill. All the info listed here was based on my final numbers[including any adj to CSR#].
Tim |
Thanks Tim, that is what I thought, but just wanted to make sure.
Regards, |
You are welcome Bill. I don't make many changes to the CSR # anyway. To me it's the weakest factor of the 4 anyway.

4 factor longshot question
5:05 am
L.t. where can i find rmath longshot info i'm currently using his method at LAD so far so good only 7 races yesterday. I'm not trying to step on anyones toes. Just look for a good source info on this great 4 factor method. this guy rmath i was told was a teacher. I'm sorry i was not able to meet him. I think his work is Great! |
Hi Storm. Richies' longshot angle is simply to look for any non contender the ranks in the top 5 of both CSR and VDC. I think he posted it in a thread but I don't remember when. He would put $2 to win on them[depending on odds]. If the horse had some corollary support in the primary bl/bl factors he would also use it in dds or exactas. I look for longshot horses everyday and do pretty well with them. Rich and I were friends for over 30 yrs and talked everyday[usually working races together] He do GP and I do Parx.
Although never an official teacher Rich worked with anyone who asked for his help. He actually won enough money playing at Mtn to build his first home[Doc published several of his signers in the F/U,]. He was nicknamed the computer guy by the folks at the track. His passing was a great loss to all of us. You can't go wrong using his approach to id true contenders. Good luck Tim |
The track was MNR [Mountaineer]. Rich was the one that got me to look more at the mid to low level tracks and away from my home NYRA circuit. Needless to say it worked out well for me in the long run.

I’m so sorry for your loss of a very close dear friend. There are no good words.
Thank you and him so for help. K.C. |
Thanks and you are welcome. You would have liked Rich if you had gotten to know him. If I can help with anything else just fire off your questions and I'll try to answer the best I can.
Tim |
The four
SO YOU HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST 1 #3]?
IF YOU HAVE 1 1 1 1 and a 3 3 3 3 then the 3 3 3 3 would be the one to bet on? just trying to get it right.... thanks |
Don the 1111 is the stronger horse. What Rich meant was according to his records when horses have all 4 numbers the winners usually had at least 1 #3 rank ie
1122 strong win 3313 ok win 4444x not for win 2221 strong win 2345 marginal win Tim |
Thanks Tim

Hi Tim Winning Horses with all 4 #s[with at least 1 #3 ranking]
80 of 100 I am little confused on this so are you saying that your better off with a #3 ranking in the 4 categories than all #1 Jeff |
Hi Jeff. No a #1 rating is always better then a #3. What Richie found was all of his winners that had all 4 numbers had at least 1 #3 among them. Here are some examples that hopefully will help you
1113 1223 1132 That's what's meant be at least 1 3ranking |
Pat Heacock and I can attest to everything Tim has been saying. We went to him about 10 years ago, after reading his thread on this, and worked with him almost daily as he honed the 4 facter system, he was to us our teacher and a very dear friend. I will try to find that thread.
|
Tim, I'm so glad you decided to bring this approach up again.
|
Hi Barb. I felt that since Rich contributed so much the group with all the hard work he did that is was only fitting to keep both his memory and works alive so that others may benefit.
Tim |
For newer I would suggest you read the post by Richie on the site. Also check out the FU where Doc listed a bunch of Richies' signers[including the fact that Rich won enough money to build his 1st home]. In his hey day at Mnr Rich was affectionately
know as the computer guy. We talked daily and he always expressed the fact that he felt a duty to Doc to pass on what ever knowledge he has obtained over the yrs and also expressed his frustration at the fact the more folks didn't ask more questions. So folks don't be shy if you have questions asked them here. If you are the shy type then find a member you have faith in an send them a PM. They will help. Tim |
Thanks Tim for your help
Hi Barb thanks hope your doing well Jeff |
Hi Tim
I wanted to know how you have your RDSS settings setup Jeff |
Wow that is great follow up info Tim, I remember when Richie shared this info a couple years ago when Ted presented it. Has been very helpful to my learning. I never new Richie but it seems he learned a lot from the hat when he started out and shared that info in the interest of helping people become more knowledgeable and successful. Thanks for keeping them alive in spirit!
Ken |
Hi Jeff. I use 100% DTV and -15 to+15
Tim |
Hi Ken. Richie had helped or tried to help many folks before we lost him. He believed[as do I] that those of us who may have attain some degree of success due to the help we got from Doc and other dedicated teachers owe it to them to carry on their work by passing on what little knowledge we may have gained over the yrs.. True Rich did work with the Hat a lot. I'm glad that I was able to have worked with him for so many yrs and more importantly to have him call me a friend.
Tim |
Ok folks I just spent the last 2 hrs going thru the follow ups finding where Richies' post were located and finally found them. For those interested here are 2 I found.
FU83 starting on page 41 FU84 starting on page 59 Tim |
