MNR -- huh?

I felt like Lloyd Bridges' character in Airplane. "Guess I picked a bad week to quit sniffing glue."

In my case it was, "Guess I picked a bad night to wagercap Mountaineer."

Look at these payouts:

Ouch

Compare that to Monday evening, though:

$3.00 $10.80 $14.80 $15.00 $4.00 $6.20 $14.80 $63.40 $2.80 $11.20 plus a generous sprinkling of good Place prices offsetting some the chalk.

Hope you worked MNR on Monday too, David! I know you would have gotten your fair share of those.

Certainly goes in streaks.

David,

Looks like my earlier post about Lone Star. Did you follow the advice you gave me on betting the Exs & Tris?

Bud

alydar_ David 04-21-2010 11:13 AM

Ted and Mike, nope, didn't bet it Monday night. However, MNR is generally one of the best tracks to wagercap as I'm sure you both know.

Bud, naw. I only follow that advice for chalky tracks and situations. For example, a four-horse field at Santa Anita.

Mountaineer last night was exceptional. In all the years I've been playing that track I've never seen a night with such low payoffs. That's why I posted it -- the exception to the rule.

barb craven 04-21-2010 12:30 PM

I agree David. Mountaineer is one of my favourite tracks and I did play it Monday night with, for me, spectacular results with a couple of exactas too. Last night after the first few I gave up and just watched.

I played MNR on Monday night and actually made a few bucks. I thought I was a wagercapping genius. However, I gave much of it back on Tuesday night. It was surreal. A few of the chalks went off at less than even and won by 6+ lengths. Very untypical for MNR as far as I can tell based on my limited experience.

i had 2 @ the MNR on Mon. and said to my wife "wow, 2 winners @mnr, where should i write it".
hey PEN tonight any one playing?

Hmmmm. Must have something to do with the stars. Astrologically, some nights pay better than others dependent on positive or negative lunar aspects ans something called Sayana Nakshtras or constellations. I know that it sounds bizarre but there appears to be some validity. On some days favorites are dominant and on some days outsiders are dominant. For example last year on December 18, the Moon paralleled the North Node at 1:30 pm in the East. I looked all over for a race to wager on - the one track I neglected was Laurel - Brookstein won paying $262.80. $2.00 trifecta paid over $15,000. I also just missed Hollywood on the 13th when the Moon hit Mars - Rummysecretwar paid $216.40 and a $1 superfecta over $42,000. My hope is that sometime, once I have some competency in Rdss, that I will be able to use both systems effectively.

I had the same experience at MNR those two nights.

When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
IS THIS THE AGE OF AQUARIUS?

wilbur porter 11-27-2010 02:24 AM

It may be the Age of Aquarius for everyone else - for me it's "Old Age".

Hi Barb,
On Friday I saw your post and I figured If MNR is one of Barb's favorites then I should take a look. I am starting off slow with the $$$ amounts. Friday night I won a little money. Saturday night I hit 3 in a row races 7,8,and 9 with the #3 horse in all races paying 26, 22.4, and 8.8. So thanks Barb and Ted-RDSS what a tool! To go to a track cold with no models or stats and have success is great.
Follow the process believe the tool..
Regards,
Bill

Hi Bill
I'm glad RDSS is doing well by you. I'm only looking at sprints at the moment and had luck with MNR Friday. 1st and 2nd didn't pay much, but the 7th was nice for 8.20 and 42.20 exacta. and the 9th to win, a chalk came in for 26.80. I wish I'd put an exacta on that one too. I did a couple at Penn too, 6th and 7th. Not bad, but no double digits. Last night I only played MNR 4 & 6 - not much 3.80, but made it back on the exacta for 18.00 and the 7th.
Good luck and good skill. Barb

I only do a few races there, at MNR. But selectively, I find it a great place for value. Tonight in race 5, I got an astounding payoff, (> 2.0 ) even using 3 (!) horses. I had to rub my eyes ... I thought I was hallucinating.

Also I like Charles Town. :D Love those little 4.5 F races.

Have you ever looked at Fairmont Park , in Illinois ? Tonight in the last race, I could not believe my eyes when I saw the the horse they were betting on. They had it down to 2/1.
I mean, seriously, would you bet on THIS ?

Try also Lone Star, in Texas, if you are looking for some great value plays.

On the other hand, (and maybe we should have a track humor thread, as SO many funny things happen .. that maybe we could share).

Look who ran and won in the race before.
I always wondered what happened to my little Bo Bo. :p

DontSayDont 04-13-2013 09:35 AM

I dont have RDSS or any other software to run this horse thru but yes, I can see where it might have gotten some action:
A. 2nd start after layoff similar to its 43 day "freshening?"
B. Throw out its efforts on Turf and Poly which it seemed to dislke.
C. Bet down to 2:1 in its last race.
D. Drops one class level as it did when it broke its maiden.
E. Maiden win was for 7.5/7 and 1/2 to 2/3 of that would make @4k a logical level for class.
F. 50% in $ (1st or 2nd), at this track and distance.
G. APV 2nd
H. CR 3rd
I. Trainer winning at 28%
J. Jockey winning at 23%

I can't see how this horse stacks up vs the competition but on just its own performances, I can see how it might be a contender.

Dorianmode 04-13-2013 09:33 PM

Thanks for that.

Another very interesting race today was Mountaineer #3, Saturday, 4/13/13. When I first saw it, the 8 was, and pretty much remained so, until post time, at 1/9. So I was going to move along, when I noticed there was almost NO action AT ALL on the others. SO, I thought maybe it might present an opportunity for a place bet.

It turned out to be THE classic Sartin place horse. The class of the field, the 3. For most of the time before the race it was 23/1. I ran my little place dutching tool, and the minimum odds in the place pool for it was about 3/1. There were only 2 other remote possibilties for the place horse. So I ignored the win pool, did the primary bet on the 3 to place, and small insurrance bet on the other two, (43/1, and 92/1). Of course it placed, and the payoff was 3.00.

So just an example of great value at MNR. :)

Ted turned me on to it, and I have him to thank.
