No, #4 didn't stop. However, I'll take horses like #6 in these kinds of races at 8-1 all day long, Mike.

Yeah, that wasn't much fun.

I'll take a gander at this track, just cause' I like the name. Kinda like, "Who's your daddy?" Or, a racetrack the creators of South Park might name.

Woa, that worked out. Hit the win and exacta.

PHA 3rd: MCL for 2YO fillies. Not exactly the most predictable of races.

However, in the spirit of PHA I'll make some tiny exacta bets.

1-7-5-10-6

Nice job - congrats.

I passed on the first at Belmont and saw my predicted pacesetter go wire-to-wire at 5/1. Problem was that in the seven horse field, I could make a case for four of them so I listened to the voice that said "back off."

Now there are five maiden races in a row followed by two turfers for two-year-olds.

Now, I've got nothing going until the ninth.

race 4..

8 & 3

Thanks, Clore. If you wait for BEL why not jump into Philly waters with Mike and me?

I'm a conservative player - I do my thing armed with my awareness of the local talent and my decision models. Would you believe that since Saratoga opened, I've made only 17 wagers?

Can't argue with that. And I applaud your patience and discipline.

Well, thank you. I spend so much time on the record keeping and analysis, which when added to watching the races also, can really add up.

At Saratoga, I got $2.03 back for every dollar invested. So far at Belmont, it is $2.49 back for every dollar spent.

Meanwhile, I have the extra time for other pursuits.

Depending on the odds, I will go for Tizway in the ninth. He's fresh and runs well enough under such conditions, he likes the oval and appears that he should be the pacesetter.

If I can get the morning line odds, I'll go for it.

Morning line was 7/2, he went off at 3/1. Close enough, so I took it.

EDITED TO ADD
It dropped to 5/2 in the last flash - I'll take it - as if I had a choice at that point.

More Belmont possibilities...10/03/2010

Am in agreement with Cloe that not much was going on at Belmont yesterday; though five Mdn races from 10 carded, seems excessive, it's not, it's the norm at most top tracks today. Despite that, I find those tracks more predictive and formful than their less noteworthy bretheren.

Cloe's call on yesterdays feature at Belmont was a good call; while he saw it clearly I found only confusion. So I passed.

The only reason I'm posting this is to acknowledge that other resources, some within easy reach, are available to help decipher some of those Mdn offerings. Part of my prepartion for yesterday's races was to watch the pre-race show. Usually I'm dismissive of the public handicappers opinions, after all I have incremental velocity and deceleration, they can't top that, except when they do. Yesterday was one of those days.

They featured a trip call, yes trips, used appropriately, are a terrific addition to the handicappers arsenal; particularly when the chart caller misses it completely. They featured a philly, that in her first start was sandwiched by her neighbors at the gate and pinched back to last. It took a count of 12 for her to catch up to the field. In effect whe was moving forward in the fastest quarter mile of the race, not a brilliant display of speed, but a steady gain none the less. In my experience this is a harbinger of better things to come.

Bet her $2.00 to win, singled her in a pick 3, and called it a day.

2010-10-03 12:34:59 Bet* Belmont 6 Pick-3 $1.00 2/2+4/2+5+11 $6.00 $126.75
2010-10-03 12:37:59 Bet* Belmont 6 Win $2.00 2 $2.00 $13.00

Thanks to the public handicappers I cashed a nice ticket.

Regards,
Chris

Congrats on your score Chris.

That's the was that I felt about the first race yesterday.

I do try to catch the pre-races program and they do have some "horses to watch" tips that pan out. As for maidens, I look at the PPs via RDSS, but without breeding info, I feel at a tremendous loss.

Example - I used to keep a "mud sires" list as well as one for "turf sires" and under the proper situations, would use it. Many years ago, someone was trying to recruit me for Amway - selling stuff in my off hours. He asked me to lunch to discuss it.

It was fortunate that the place was right next to an OTB, so he saw me place a wager on a first-time-starter. He thought that was incredibly foolish, but I noted that Jose Martin's barn was hot at that point with first-timers and that the horse's sire Jaipur produced superior mud runners. This was determined purely from my own research. It was pouring out that day and the horse was 10/1 morning line.

His whole pitch during lunch was that here I was, wagering a whole day's salary on an unknown and spending my off time handicapping, researching and keeping records when I owed it to my family to do something proven like selling Amway products.

"You mean something sure like knocking on doors and hoping that someone wants to buy my overpriced detergent?"

When lunch was over, we went back into the OTB and there it was on the board, my horse won and it paid $21.00.

He ended up asking me which books he should buy to study thoroughbred handicapping.

Ted - if you are out there, I sure wouldn't mind having the breeding info in the next version of RDSS. It's one more tool for the toolbag.

Hi Charles,

I think I might have mentioned elsewhere recently about including extended Breeding info within RDSS 2.0.

We already get pedigree 2 generations back from TrackMaster (like the DRF), it's just not used currently.

In addition, I will provide a link to a public resource for a full 5 generations back. Eg. Zenyatta: http://www.pedigreequery.com/zenyatta

There are no immediate plans to include further detailed start statistics derived from pedigree (e.g. trainers FT starter stats, mud/turf stats by Sire, etc)

Ted

OK, that's fine as I like doing my own number crunching anyway. Glad to hear about what will be added and thanks for the response.
