val4 problem

I have Val4 in my desktop and laptop and have not use the program in about 3 months.I loaded a few Trackmaster pp files to check the old program once again. The menu option #3-Pacelines does not work. It's just empty.I tried it on my other computer and same thing.I have the Win7-Pro with the Virtual Machine-XP mode on both computers and everything was working a few months ago.I uninstalled and installed the program on both computers but the program option 3-Pacelines will not load.I wonder if anybody else have the same problem or there's new changes with the Trackmaster data.

Ray make sure your are not downloading files for RDSS. files for the spec 160 work using trackmaster dowloads for the older style programs. but not "trackmaster plus pro". when i did download for MPH i needed to go to TM's
"comma delimited "b" for downloads. but i could be wrong.....:(

ray lopez 11-16-2012 06:03 PM

I downloaded the regular pp's(.exe) that i usually do to the C:\Trkmast folder.I tried using the "Fix Download "option, but still can't get the Val4 to work.

ray lopez 11-16-2012 06:27 PM

I uninstalled and installed everything. This time it works but i have to push the #1 menu first,"Conditions"...then the #2 menu,"Entries",then the the #3 menu,"Pacelines and Details".It only works by going through this procedure. If i go straight to the #3 menu, without going to #1 and #2,it 'hangs'.Weird...

ray lopez 11-16-2012 07:04 PM

I must have a bad or corrupted program. It still 'hangs' when i click #3-Pacelines and Details.

Rverge 11-17-2012 05:26 PM

Ray are you running the program w/ a "dos box" type of software?

ray lopez 11-17-2012 06:20 PM

I had it on DOSBOX and also on Xp.There were some data files that work and some don't.It's hit-or-miss,very inconsistent that i don't want to waste my downloads anymore.Spec 150 works, though but i like Val4 better. Can't use it now though.

Got a lot of time today and restored my computer to factory condition with Win 7 Ultimate.Installed my Val4 in the Virtual Machine XP mode and i'm very happy because everything works. It's hard to let go of an old friend,my Val4.

Val4

Ray: I'm starting to use my Val4 again after about 10yrs...not certain if I have to load a new Trkmast every year......btw I called TM a long while ago and ( I think) I was told that there is a new file extension to use instead of the 'comma delimited' file.

Good Skill

Welcome to Pace and Cap

Good Skill with Val 4 I think its a great program
Hope you have loads of success with "OLD BLUE"
and eventually you can upgrade to RDSS
Val 4 is mirrored just about 99.9 percent in
RDSS so you get "old blue" plus ease of navagation in a windows format

Look forward to good reports

Lou,

For Val4, you have to use the TrackMaster 'TMPP' format files (with an EXE extension), found here: http://www.trackmaster.com/cgi-bin/axprodlist.cgi?tpp

Also, not to quibble, but Validator4 was made by me in 2006 as an update to the previous Val2 and Val3c published by Dr Sartin and O Henry House, with his blessings. So Val4 has not strictly been around for 10 years. If you are referring to Val2 or Val3, they are outdated due to a data file change in 2006 by Equibase/TrackMaster. RDSS is the successor to Val4.

Good luck with Val4, and welcome back!

cheers,

Ted

Ted:
Thanks for the come back. I'd like to look into the RDSS program you have developed. Can you send me some info (ops manual and pricing)?

Thanks again

Glad you got Val4 going.

I have Val3C and have been away from the Methodology for a good while.

Can any body tell me what the difference is between 3C and 4 ??

I assume Val4 is an improvement on Val3C but actually I am not familiar with Val4.

I am very satisfied with Val3C but curious about Val4.

Thank you.

Val 3- Val4

3 Attachment(s)
hello Doug

Val 3 and Val 4 are pretty much the same program.
Doc took some things out of Val 2 and tweaked the readouts very
slightly. There really is very little difference between Val 2 and Val 3.

Any trackmaster download Sartin program made before 2006 will still use a
speed rating /ITV and DTV scale that needed to be updated
by Ted, this happened in 2006.
Attachment 34301

If you use Val 3 today you will see different speed ratings
then you will see compared to Val 4 or Spec 160

Here is an example

Here is ORB's PP's with the pre 2006 update
