In Excel Format the EPR and FFR ratings. The FFR ratings are in tenths.

Also in Excel Format a TPR Model and Profile

Did the final fraction scale change since the original Pace Makes The Race?

Also, how are the final fractions determined? And is there a way to determine 4 1/2 and 5F final fractions, despite the author's appeal not to bother?

Hi Jeebs -

I make TPRs from 5F all the way to 10F. In sprints, I use 43 seconds flat as my 105 rating and a 21 seconds flat for a third fraction 105 rating in a 6F paceline. This is consistent with the 1995 reprint edition of Pace Makes The Race (the chart is on page 22).

Tom Hambleton called a 44 seconds flat a 100 rating. Same thing since a point is a length is a fifth in this program.

Its crude, but this works: I use 6 and 4/10ths seconds per half furlong to go up or down for the different 3rd fractions. So a 5F 3rd fraction 105 rating for me is 8 and 2/10ths. And therefore a 100 rating would be a time of 9 and 2/10ths.

I make 2 or 3 adjustments in TPR and have been using it for about 2 years with really good success. One interesting note is that I make a Factor W figure, which I've never seen anyone else try. Its better than the actual TPR rating. Just like Phase III, take ((EPR x 2) + FFR) / 3 and you have a TPR based Factor W.

I'm surprised Hambleton never did that, but I think he probably had such a good handle on his handicapping and betting that it didn't matter.

Best regards!

Chuck
