Kentucky Downs - Sept 8
 

Great card today with 5 stakes races (6-10). I probably should leave well enough alone after Thursday's respectable showing but you know what they say, fools rush in where angels fear to tread.

R1 - 6,3,2 (3 FTS)
R2 - 4,8,9 (5 FTS)
R3 - 6,10,12,14
R4 - 11,7,3,10 (5 FTS)
R5 - 14,7,4,1,6
R6 - 11,10,5,2
R7 - 1,3,7,8
R8 - 6,5,2,1
R9 - 5,8,7
R10 - 4,6,5,12

At Kentucky Downs, it's win bets for me and I'll dutch as many horses as I can as long as I can make an acceptable profit. My rule of thumb is a minimum of $30 return on $20 bet. KD may be the only track in North American where you can dutch 3 or 4 horses and consistently get that much back.

I pass a lot of races. As Ted Williams said, "Get a good pitch to hit." And I'll certainly pass on those maiden races because of all the FTS. Too many unknowns.

I know that the exotics, both vertical and horizontal, frequently offer amazing payouts and I wouldn't want to talk you off anything with that much potential. I seldom play them though because from personal experience I know that they're not profitable for me. I guess my pencil isn't sharp enough and I'm always wanting more coverage so when I lose, I lose big. And at KD, I've lost a lot of them.
