I posted these comments on another thread; I wanted to put the comments in this thread:

Easier to post my previous statement but I concur with Ted. Using the Pacific Classic pace line , Beholder got a breather from the 4 furlong marker to 6 furlong marker; the mare ran a plus 24 and change on the 2nd turn fraction. American Pharoah ran his second fraction in the Travers in 23 and change followed by another 23 and change fraction from six furlongs to the mile marker while being pushed by Frosted.

I will evaluate the Classic more in depth but so far, I have the top contenders as: American Pharoah along with Tonnalist, Frosted, and Honor Code. I had thrown out Keen Ice and Beholder. Why did I throw out Keen Ice if Keen Ice had beaten American Pharoah and Frosted you might ask? In the Classic , American Pharoah will blitz the early fractions causing a "fast up" on Keen Ice and any challengers up close to the expected early pace. So this blitzing early pace might set up the race for a closer except that the best closer in the race is American Pharoah.

Is there a "Declaration of War" in this year's edition?? Well let's wait until Bill Lyster chimes in..

This is just my two cents on the Classic and my own wish to see American Pharoah dominate this field.

Good skills

With no Beholder here and Frosted NOT trying to press the lead AP has it all his own way. Frosted has beaten Keen Ice 4 or 5 times handily while pressing. If someone does press and bother AP then the 9 Honor Code could "loom up" and pass everyone with a rush.

The question mark is Glen Eagles - never on dirt but a great Group 1 record in Europe. Ryan Moore just seems to gravitate to the money races all around the world. He runs from mid pack about 4 or so off lead. Should be interesting to see if he can make a run at at price.

My picks are AP, Honor Code and Glen Eagles

I agree with Bill here. If Frosted press AP then Honor Code should take the race. Glen Eagles is a wild card, but he has never run on the dirt before. My picks would be Honor Code and AP.

Despite the numbers, I really think American Pharoah will prevail, due to guts and talent if he is rested and ready. He might have to work for it. Not sure if there's a good bet here for me. So many unknowns, including Glen Eagles

These were my bets for the Breeders Cup. Had to go with Pharoah, he's a monster horse. Then I took the 33 to 1 shot Effinex, I thought he might even beat pharaoh. But he didn't Then I went with the 2 horse.

Way to go bud!

Charlie called me up about an hour before the race and said he
thought the 2,4,6 all had the same running style (he hated the #9 positionally who busted up his triple). He was an early student of "The Hat" along with me and really focuses on positioning and tandem finishes.

** True Story**
"The Hat" really liked Charlie a LOT. Told me he was a true friend and also the kind of man who was there for someone when they needed him most. Charlie was retired from CBS in New York and had all kinds of connections there including a big TV producer etc. After getting to know "The Hat" he went to these people and approached them about making a movie or documentary about his life. There was serious interest in doing so (the true stories that Jim told me over 2 years with him would fill a book for sure!!) but then he got very sick and couldn't move forward with it.**

Nice score Charlie. Jim would be proud :)

Actually my "connection" to write the screenplay for "the Hat" was my good and longtime friend Andy Helfer. He worked for DC Comics for years both writing and editing Superman and Batman. He did some of the Superman TV series scripts. He also wrote the "Big Books" and a few biographies. Reagan being one of them. Unfortunately we were never able to get this off the ground since Jim got sick.
