Not sure where that version of Entropy came from pictured above but must have been a test version. Sartin use to give away new programs at seminars for testing and evaluation. In the early 90's I did receive an early version of Entropy at the 1990 seminar held in Saratoga.
Later I got the finalized version which was tweaked to perfection at that time. Entropy was my favorite program because of its simplicity. During that era distances of 1 & 40 and 1 & 70 were a common occurrence at numerous tracks. Not so much now a days but can still be found at minor tracks. I have never know any program produced to input 1.4 or 1.7 for those distances. The input from Sartin teachings was to use 8.2 for 1 & 40 and 8.3 for 1 & 70 for these distances. Even in later programs such as Pace Launcher etc. These distances are in between distances from one mile to 1 1/16 which is 8 F and 8.5 F respectfully. The correct input would have to be between 8 & 8.5 because 9 would be 1 & 1/8. An input of 8.7 would be more than 1 1/16 but less than 9 F or for a distance that never occurs or runs in our racing structure. Another way to look at this is there are 660 feet per furlong. Yards consist of 39 inches X 40 yd. = 1,560 inches divided by 12 inches per foot = 130 feet. A furlong of 660 feet divided by tenths is 66 feet per 1/10 x 2 = 132 feet. So 8.2 is about as close as your going to get to 130 feet. For 1 &70 yards: 660 feet per furlong divided by 10 = 66 feet per 1/10 70 yards = 39 inches x 70 = 2,730 inches divided by 12 = 227.5 feet. divided by 66( 1/10 )= 3.44 rounded off is 3 or 8.3 for 1 & 70.There is much less of an error to round down than to round up to 8.4. I'm sure this is correct and anything else is an oversight due to an error in a program or a test program that was later refined to the correct input of 8.2 for 1 & 70 yards and 8.3 for 1 & 70 yards.
