tamedos and Windows 98

I downloaded the Windows 98 version of tamedos. In the tame directory do I need to load it from a C prompt? Actually is tamedos more helpful for XP users than Windows 98 users? What I was doing from the C prompt was getting into the tame directory and typing tame /install. Is this the correct procedure? When going into a dos program I have no indication that it is working since I do not see tame anywhere on top of the screen.

I only ever used Tamedos on WinXP, but I downloaded the Win98 you mention (tame441.exe) and installed it on an old Win98 computer. The install routine extracted the files from the download EXE, but I don't believe actually installed them. TAME-MON.EXE is the program that needs to be loaded up with each DOS session (under Win98), but running that program in a DOS session by itself just displayed a message and hung there. Same with running tame /install. I believe you should see a message on the title bar of DOS windows indicating Tame, so if you don't, I suspect it is not running.

I read a bunch of the docs on the website, but they didn't help me get Tame running on Win98 so far. I'll keep trying.

Not to fob you off, but I'd send a note to support@tamedos.com asking what to do under Win98.

Tame4.5 or Tame5.0 run well under WinXP. I don't know if Win98 benefits more than WinXP. Let's get it running on Win98 first...

Ted, thanks for checking it out. I went through the docs myself and really didn't find much pertaining to Windows 98. Maybe running DOS programs do not present as many problems under 98 as they do in XP. The one thing I tried was as I said was getting to the tame subdirectory in DOS and typing tame /install. After doing this I typed a mem command in dos and saw that some additional conventional memory was being used. After typing tame /uninstall and doing another mem command the conventional memory was back to normal. So this command is doing something, but the docs don't cover it much.

I sent a note to support@tamedos.com, documenting your and my experiences with Tame4.41 and Win98. I'll let you know what I hear.

(It works like a charm under WinXP... ;-)

Ted, I don't want to take up too much of your time with this issue as you have better things to do with your time. Eventually I will need to move to XP anyway to be able to run the newer programs, such as your own RDSS.
