Some times it happens in the early part of the year

This horse from yesterday's card at Keeneland is really not so much of an outlier. You cannot get this horse with even its best line.
Horses mature at different speeds. This happens most often when horses go from their two year old year into the 3 year season. But in this case, the horse had a layoff after a promising start and its early career placements indicated that the connections thought highly of this horse. But its not just a 60-90 layoff. The horse was off almost a year and then worked decently for its return. It just needed a race. Attachment 54174 Attachment 54175 The horse won second out as a 2 YO and then was placed in graded stakes. There was no rest period as a 2 yo, they brought it back in January of last year hoping that the racing helped mature her. They even thought so much of the horse to enter the Kentucky Oaks and shortly after that put her in the barn. The owner is Calumet a big name farm from long back and still big. The last work was a 4f gate work that rated 100%, the last in a line of six works after its last start. I am not the first to mention this type of horse. (You could look into the postings of FTL who is no longer with us, unfortunately.) Horses that get a little taste of the action early and show some promise, whether they are newly turned 3 yo or 4yo deserve a look when they show up after a winter or longer off period. its true that most horses off long times had probably been hurt, but at times, the owners want to get to the races with more mature horses. Its not going to a prime bet, Lord knows I did not look at this race yesterday, but if the odds warrant a decent payoff why not put $2 down! it might "...make your day." |

Very good analysis if I must say. Looking at the results the horse only paid 79.76. It would of been a very good $200 bet. Good job on digging into the details. Now that is definitely great handicapping Don Thanks for the analysis. |
