Exotic Wagering Using Val4

Gang,

Hello. Any thoughts how best to use Val4 to consistently pick that group of (four to six) horses that'll finish in the top three or four positions (i.e. trifecta and superfecta)? So far I have not found the combo using this software.

Finding the key horse is not the problem. Finding the other guys/gals is! I can do it using standard handicapping techniques, but it is time consuming, not the least of which (after a few races), mentally wearisome. Would love to do it with a push of a few keys!

Any thoughts?

Jonathan,
A friend of mine swears by Speculator PA (pre160) for the gimmicks. His method is to draw lines on the racing form before loading any software. Then selecting only the lines drawn on the form and not paying attention to any trackmaster speed figures. He says that Speculator never stopped working when trackmaster changed its data because he always did it this way going way back to Validator and never liked Trackmasters speedfigures.

Hello Jon

I have seen so many big prices in the top 4 BLBL
for exacta ,trifectas, even Superfectas
If your paceline contender selection is good
you will get many nice wins in the top 4

Hey you might even hit one like this
This is right out of Follow up # 82
I boxed the top 4 and won a $1100 super
for my dad

Bill,

Hello. Yes, I remember that issue very well. As I started reading that page, I suddenly realized who it was and said (to myself), "Hey, that's Binder!" :)

Thanks for your input.

Best regards,

Trifectas and Superfectas

If only it was a matter of "pushing" a few keys, but then it wouldn't be worth pursuing; to many handicappers would have it, and payouts would be to low to justify the risk. The thing to keep foremost in mind, when considering a TRI or SFX, is that cashing these exotics is a low, or should I say, a very low, probabiltiy event!

Yet it's my preferred choice of bets; does not require a massive outlay of funds; rewards imaginative and creative approaches to structuring the bet; and the risk reward ratio, I find acceptable. If fingering the "key" horse is not your problem then you're there! The only question for serious consideration is should the bet be made at all, and if so what can VAL4 bring to the table.

From my own experience with VAL4, I believe the the most important addition for an exotic player that this program throws into the mix is the counter energy horse. For me this is usually a key in structuring the bet; not the most counter energy, but the best counter energy. In other words, should be in the top 2-3 BL/BL or V/DC. Now, the question has to be asked, should the bet even be made? If the favorite is a prohibitive choice, and figures to run first or second, I pass; however if the favorite is 5/2 or better I'll consider the bet. I'm not here to solve puzzles, I'm here to cash good tickets. Remember, It's still a low probablity event. what ever the odds of the favorite, and I can't sustain myself with a $75.00-$100.00 Sfx mutual when they finish first or second.

I don't know if this is helpful or not. Though it is important for me to review for myself why I do what I do, and some of the how. When I was attending the races would often hear the comment that "you" (meaning me) have a real knack for hitting those tri's and sfx's. Knack, smack, my mother didn't birth with the gift of hitting exotics, I kept the faith and worked at it.

Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris I enjoyed your post very much
thanks for sharing your thoughts .
I realize now looking back to june of 2000
The original Validator was the program
The VDC readout was still new to me
The way I did this race was pretty much just
picking what I thought were good lines
The best of the last 3
The thing I think i might disagree with you is waiting for
the favorite to run out But that could be a part of why I need
to bet two horses and back up my bets across the board
The race had it all going The favorite was the # 1 VDC
but It had a strong counter energy horse # 10 that placed
and it was the # 3 VDC
I made the bet with my dad It was a magic moment
It was worth so much more than money.
I'm glad I have the chance to share it here
with such good guys
GS
