Chris,

Can you view this video: www.bindfold.com/videos/MeAPV.wmv

I can load and watch it using WMP 11 in either WinXP or Vista. Some other videos, even if they are WMV format (Windows Media Video) were created by whatever software using a specific codec (compression/decompression software), so you need to downlod and install those specific codecs from the supplier so WMP will use them to playback those files.

WMP will play other file formats (AVI, MPG, etc) but again may need the codec supplied by the authoring software.

If you can provide a link to an online video file you're trying to view, that might help. Are you using Vista? It may have a few burps which need updating before video flows smoothly, and you can Google for 'Vista codec updates' to download free drivers which add in to WMP 11 to improve recognition of various video files you may find here and there.

Chris,

If your new computer, with WinXP, also came pre-installed with Windows Media Player 11, perhaps you need to update that installed software with the latest WMP 11 version, which would include all available codecs.

Try here
