Weight assignments in current race

Ted,

I can't seem to find the weight assignment for the current race on any screen, the weights in prior races are in the PP's.

Thanks
Carl

Carl,

I don't think they're there! I'll see if I can add the info to the horse's header info (e.g. with Post Position, M/L, etc). Weight has never been a biggie in the Sartin Meth.

Ted,

I dont use them very much either, but they can be helpful when you have 3 or 4 horses all coming from the same race. In those cases I will check weight changes and post position to see if it can make a difference.

Thanks
Carl

What kind of a difference?

Turbulator,

Its not uncommon to have 3 or 4 horses running from an earlier tandem but have a different outcome. Especially when the orignal race was close, so I'm looking for any edge that might open the door to another tandem horse winning. Maybe the horse (a frontrunner) is on the outside this time, not buried in at the rail on a track that the rail is dead. Also maybe the race conditions for this race are such that not only is he on the outside but he's also 6 pounds lighter. It may not matter in your style of handicapping, but it helps me at times.

I have an open mind. Years ago, weight was a big part of my handicapping arsenal. My friend and mentor, who was one of the best handicappers I've ever known, used weight, and especially the shift in weights to great advantage. Believe it or not, but he would get very excited over one pound. He always made note of the overweights between races. Any jockey going up more than once from race to race he wouldn't bet. "He must be eating hot dogs between races."

I no longer pay any attention to weight, but that doesn't mean I don't think it has value as a factor. I don't summarily dismiss anything.
