Bad Times For Maryland

Magna Corp says they took a big hit in Maryland racing with losses that more than tripled their fourth quarter loss and says it's ability to continue are in doubt.November will tell the tale as the voters face a slot machine referendrum.

Meanwhile in neighboring Pennsylvania they took in over 1 billion in revenue last year thanks to the one armed bandits.

Hi Shoeless.............

I saw your reference to Maryland - I live in the Baltimore area. I moved here from New York and can tell you what the biggest problem is here: they don't bring the sport to the customers.

We have endless lotteries in every street corner store across the state, including keno, daily numbers, and even a simulated horse racing game with races going off every 5 minutes! But if you want to play a horse in Maryland, for the exception of the internet, it has to be at Pimlico, Laurel, Rosecroft, or at one of the 3 or 4 off tracks around the state.

By the way, if I want to play live, I drive 58 miles to CT, rather than 22 to Pimlico. Crazy, huh ??

Take care,

Chuck

If a track needs slots to survive, it shouldn't survive.Slot machines are a disgusting method of stealing money from people.
