Brohamer's Contender Guidelines

From FU 22 - he discusses his approach in the 1993 seminar. Tom mentioned these apply to the last race, except for layoff horses. If the last race is excusable, then he likes to see the horse "up close" in his next to last race. He cautions against excusing too many races, just where the horse clearly didn't have his best shot to win - too high a class, significant trouble, etc., you know the drill.

He also mentioned on a class dropper, he'll take his "up close" guidelines back to the FIRST call for evaluation, IF the pace of the race is inordinately fast.

He also mentions he typically uses the best of the last 2 USABLE lines for his pace line.

Again, claimers are his bread & butter, so these guidelines are probably geared more to those races.

These guidelines are great "money savers".
Sounds a bit like Wm Scott's stuff........great author with (again) wonderful money saving ideas.

No prob. One other tidbit I heard today was that with a sprinter stretching out, he relaxes the "up close" rules a bit but he didn't exactly say how. If I hear, I'll let you know. Maybe he's thinking along the lines of an even sprint, but not necessarily meeting the "up close at the stretch" sprint guidelines. Just thinking out loud.

Agreed. Doc always had good to to say about Scott - i think he said he was a "client" after he wrote the books.
