Attacking a Race
2 Attachment(s)
Im mainly addressing this to any newbies out there,in my opinion the first thing you should do when attacking a race is READ THE CONDITIONS.There is a wealth of information there that cannot be given to you by program readouts. This was from a race at CT on Saturday night,if you notice the conditions of the race and look down to the Feb 24th paceline you will see what I mean.By the way in the pp's the small s means state bred just in case you didnt know.I know people will come out of the woodwork and look back at this race and say oh this program or this way would have gotten the winner and that's great AFTER THE FACT.I know everyone has a way of doing things and none of them is wrong. But if you want to improve your cappin this is one thing that will surely help.Oh by the way he went off 8-1 and won.

Ironic you post this now. I was listening to the pro paceline tapes in Club area last night and TWO different pros mentioned on the tapes how they looked at the race conditions IMMEDIATELY before doing anything! You sure you are not a mind reader bud? Good stuff |
Richie,Believe me Ray Taulbot said the same things YEARS before the people did on the pacline tapes.Jeff

Forgot about that name and probably others.
Ray Taulbot was another one of Doc's favorite and repetitive mentions for reference. VoodooFan |
Jim Quinn's "The Handicappers Condition Book" is a classic read.

Lesson 2
I have been looking first at numbers then looking who fits the conditions of the race,BIG MISTAKE it should be the other way around.Dont just go to your computer readouts first. If anyone else would like to post how they attack a race feel free even though I doubt I will get much reponse. On PA they brought up if you knew something that makes you a winner would you be willing to share it.I thought about this and yes I would even though on this board I feel most would not.I know Im going to hear Admin say friends helping friends but think about it ARE WE REALLY DOING THAT. |
I learn to work the race in a organize and methodical manner. Same procedures and I never deviate from it.
Read carefully the race conditions Look casually the race, to get a sense of it I focus on the horse's last 4 races, starting with the last, (times/positions/bl) Workouts line Pace and Speed ratings Race type column Distance/Surface column Jocks/Weight column Horse's box scores My next step is to find the positive and negative horse's attributes. You'll be surprise how many horses you'll be tossing out. I'm always left with 4, or at the most, 5 contenders. Software is a thing of the past for me. I have been making progress since. You might ask: are you winning? ???? |
Pino,That was good you posted exactly how you go about doing things.Actually I go about it the same way except that I will use CJ numbers to get my contenders hopefully to 4 and then run those through Synergism.Im not as good as you are with being able to interperate numbers as you.
Im hoping some of you lurkers that never post will chime in or at least say hello it would be nice for a change. |
