I see this on the entry screen tonight at Wdb. Do u know about this "lite whip"? sounds good if it is what it says :)

Thanks man!

It is an experimental design trying to lessen the problems in the horse's hide. Stewards told me about them last Summer.

3/6/1 TRIFECTA

TORONTO, May 29 - The Ontario Thoroughbred horse racing industry today announced a new Use of the Whip Initiative.

The Initiative asks all jockeys in the first two races of every card at Woodbine from Wednesday, June 3, 2009 through Sunday, June 28, 2009 to use a Lite Touch Whip. Jockeys will have the option of using the Lite Touch Whip for the remainder of the card on each day.

Also, during the program, jockeys can use no more than 2 consecutive strikes once the whip is in use, allowing reasonable time for the horse to respond.

Got to give WO credit. From this whip thing to the use of Trakus for their PP's at EQU, this is a nice operation. Has quickly become my favorite track. A glimpse of what the future holds: ACCURATE data, which means just sitting back and properly interpreting charts.

Thanks Tim.
This is good stuff. Glad to see and TFM is right. Woodbine is doing good things. Their takeouts especially on exotics are another story.

Big Fields, top riders, turf and poly (which is a lot like dirt) great turf course that the Europeans love, great history, solid backing of both the harness and Thoroughbred industry, great relationship with the Province of Ontario, national wagering site through HPI (Horse Player Interactive), going to build a huge entertainment park and convention center on the grounds starting in two years, GREAT PEOPLE (Lou Cauz at the Canadian Thoroughbred Hall of Fame, Jim Bannon track handicapper, Dan Loiselle, announcer), great people covering the races up in the Telephoto televisions studio where Ted and I toured last Summer, great breeding industry with the one of the top sires in the world from there (Smart Strike) a commitment to the breed with big family operations all over the province, multiple harness, T-bred and quarter horse operations well supported by the fans and OFTEN on national television to entice MORE fans, great West/East rivalry with multiple regional derbies across the country in the East and in the West,....see why I support it and love to be a part of it. I judge the Sovereign Awards each season and the entrants into the Canadian Hall of Fame. I have a "dream" position here in Canada racing.

Three cheers for the Fort.
Hopefully, this leads to banning all whips.

That will never happen. They just need to police the use better.

4th race today at Woodbine in almost a purse of $91,000 and it is just an allowance race!
