Close to pace with OTE power move in PP
 

I arrived a bit late to the party but here are a couple of horses close to a decent pace that showed a power move OTE in their past:

First one paid $8.60 and second one paid $9.20.

Foa a power move on Mission Gap, I saw the 6th and 9th line back. Fo the power move on Celestial Act, I saw the 4th and 10th line back.

What good is a “power move” in lines #6 and #9?

One is 145 days old, at the wrong distance, and the other is 403 days old, at the wrong distance.

This horse is really very easy with respect to line selection or choosing a line from which to evaluate the horse. It has ONE LINE ONLY! Line 2.

Lines 3 through 10 are all sprints.

Lines 1 and 3 are on the turf.

This leaves one line and one line ONLY, line 2!

No rocket science here.

There is nothing else to look at.

You're right. The only line I would use to rate the horse is the 2nd line back. However, as you can see below, there are three contenders. Of these, the 5 is the earliest horse. The 5 can't fight. If I don't have the power lines for confirmation, the 2 looks like an early horse that can't fight. If he can run from off the lead, he looks like he'll fit between the 5 and 6.

You don't need a power move from and old line.

Since the #2 and #5 are both early horses, and since the #5 is definitely a "need to lead" type of horse (at any distance), all you need is to determine which of these two horses is the fastest early horse. Not at the finish, but at the first call. If the #2 beats the #5 at the first call, the #5 will retreat, leaving the #2 alone on the lead.

If the #5 beats the #2 to the first call, then you can consider looking for an "ote" horse since, as you noted, the #2 will fight and the race will likely set up for an "ote" horse.
