Does the Bet Make You

The best call ever was from Michael Pizzolla "Let The Bet Make You" and the more I think about it, "How True". I am not one to bet 2 horses, to me it contradicts what I am trying to do and that is single out the winner. Sure I pass on many chalk horses but I am looking for value. With every thing we use step back and rethink everything, "Does The Bet Make You" and if so win or lose, move on. I have read everything Sartin and this is what I got from it and that was, positive and back it up everything else discussed was just trickle down jibberish. Sartin never came out and said we bet this that and the other, we read into it that way. This in no way is to stir the pot but just listen to Jim The Hat and Michael Pizzolla discuss the match-up and if that doesn't shed any light on what happens then as the Hat would say "Shut Me Up"

Bet

My opinion If your doing well betting one horse. Why do you care about those of us who bet two horses

I bet two horses because I am unable to handle very long losing streaks
I bet two horses because I might need a more of a boost to my self esteem
than most people.
I bet two horses because cashing winning bets helps me stay upbeat, confident and happy
I bet two horses because I agree with something that Doc wrote about very often that is ....
For many of his clients when faced with the decision of which horse to bet
the majority will bet the lowest odds horse.
I have always gone with the idea of the chance of betting a 15/1 is greater in a 2 horse bet \method than a one horse method especially if one is in the mist of a long losing streak.
As I get older and am starting to understand a little bit more about true contenders.
I will admit there are times when I only really think 1 horse has a
good probability of winning the race.
However I find it very unsettling to my nerves to make a one horse bet
I still will bet another horse, I probably always will.
It takes all kinds. What each of us do with our money and skill
is up to us to determine what is best.

Bill, well said. Avoiding a long losing streak is very important to one's psyche. Imho, the roi is most important. One must have a positive edge in this game or any game of chance to succeed.

Actually the best call was probably made in A Potts book Against The Crowd (the Method of a Modern Backer)

The only TRUE measure of my ability to assess VALUE is when i close my accounts at the end of the season.
Bet one, two, three or four and return a positive ROI and you will have passed the above test.

Bill and Lonespeed again I guess I messed up. I believe Sartin gave you the net that a bet on two was the safety net provided your capping was bang on.
But I ask you if you hit and were not talking this week, this month 1 out of three and it's for value year end your in the black. Just as you will have runouts you will also have streaks. I never judge small samples and I keep exact records of every bet, come year end that is my bottom line. This was not a challenge but a discussion, never meant if I did to offend anyone.
