My response to KP was (and feel free to disagree with my stance)... yes, the 7 is the class of the field, but considering the layoff, the length of time between comparable races and the drop (to $10k), I still wouldn't touch this horse at 3-1. I agree that we need to pay careful attention when a horse is clearly "class" and look for clues, but this was a case (IMO) where the odds didn't justify going back to that 3rd line down and making it a contender. There were plenty of horses to select lines for in this particular race and for me (again, didn't play this race, worked it to have a dialogue with KP and learn some things), the proper play would still have been not selecting a line for the 7 and wagercapping by hiding the 3/5 favorite and playing horses in the other BL/BL tiers. Thoughts?
Mr Jeebs,
I took a look at this race when you posted it and didn't have the 7 in my contender group. I agree with you. You can't try and make a case for every horse. Do what you do and get the winners you get. This is like the bit from the Matchup forum where it is advised not to torture yourself making winners come up to the top when you look back. Every horse has something going for it.
You noticed Bill had it in his contender list which is great for him. Didn't pay much for a horse with two donuts for its two last races. The public really pays attention to class.
Thanks for posting the race,
Pook
