delayjf: there are probably more elegant responses that I can give but I find myself with little time these days. Read the Follow Ups as Houndog advised - FU #'s 16 -20 have a lot of good info on Energy.

I don't have Syn MatchUp II, so I really can't comment. Jim's Match Up is at the heart of the entire methodology so you will find his concepts in all software programs to some extent.

It appears Syn Match Up II is velocity based as is the dos Match Up program - I don't have the Windows Match Up program. Energy was written by Jim to a large extent so you will find the Match Up in Energy, maybe in its most eloquent form of any program, even though i use EXDC with Thoromation, which is just a further refinement of Energy.

It all starts with the fractional calls and beaten lengths one puts in but Energy is about how a horse apportions the total energy it displays and is more dynamic in my opinion. It is much more sensitive to having the right contenders in the mix and both slow horses and one run 3rd fraction types will make it a mess. If you take a pacesetter out of the contention mix, it will change the results. Velocity is more static but you can make the same type of interpretations if you do the analysis.

With the right contenders, in my experience, it does point to winners that velocity programs don't get. I think beaten lengths may also be treated differently than with velocity.

Hope that helps. Now, I need to get some shut eye.

Thanks for the reply, can you tell me what the difference is between Energy and Synergetic Match Up. Looking at some of the screens Froggy displayed, those same screens are in the Match-up program as well. I've never used the Energy program but it appears that Energy is incorporated into the Matchup programs as well. Is that correct?
