I normally bet win and place on the 2 high odds horses when i narrow a race to 4 contenders. They must both be 5-1 or higher.

If i intend to bet an exotic, i will usually narrow a race down to 5 horses.
exotic, being an exacta.If the field is 8 or less, i often "key" my 2 win
horses to the field in tris. I have been a 2 win horse wagerer since 1985.BTW, the horse on my screenshot with all the "1's" was not the number one early horse. This looked very suspicious to me.

It works for me.
