Patrick, Don't beat yourself up. I will offer you my humble opinion. Hopefully it will help you or you or anyone else can just disregard it.
In this pastime the numbers, figures, software and misinformation can be your worst enemy. Unfortunately, we are all for the most part, forced to rely on them because that's all we have.. One can never account for all the hidden variables and unforseen things that are present in so many of the races. The game is and always has been about value. It's a percentage game. Weather, short fields, poor race quality, improper bets and lack of discipline will lead you down a path of destruction. The game is an arduous grind and takes an enormous amount of patience and may not be worth the possible rewards you may achieve for the time invested if you are a diligent and highly disciplined player. My guess would be that less then 3% of those that play the game fall into the category of being a consistent and meaningful winner. I know it's a hard pill to swallow but that's the facts Jack.
