[Thanks for the nice comments in Del Mar thread shoe]
Shoeless thought I should post this so I will share ... it does have a funny memory so maybe it's ok - I just didn't want to appear as if I was trying to outdo anyone - here goes (cut and paste)
when I was 27 my best friend and constant
handicapping buddy - the guy who got me hooked, got real
drunk, drove home and got stuck in a ditch.. he rocked
his old car back and forth and plugged up the tail
pipe with mud/clay and parked the car ... it was
cold so he ran the engine. His roomates found him the next
morning and he died due to Carbon monoxide poisoning...
we had so many fun times - i guess crazy times
at the track....
one funny time we had (or funny looking back)
we were at CT at the finish line - where we
always were - just as the horses come to the finish
line, he goes bizerk... hands flying, money going in the
air - he's screaming... i think wtf and ask him
what's wrong ... well he doesnt tell me - he just starts
beating on his leg/thigh.... what he did was - well he was
a smoker and used matches.
He had a (now bad) habit of folding the flap of
the match cover under the matches welllllll.... the
matches from one book scraped the sandpaper of
another and he started a small fire in his pants... we
went to the infirmary and we started laughing - we thought "can you
imagine being in the club house seats and
watching him and wondering what he was doing.... Here -
just take
my money"
