Maybe not so much

I tend to subscribe to the notion that the hallmark of the Thoroughbred is speed and the classical champion is ability to carry one's speed over classical distances.
From the chart and the times of this race, the surface was deep and slow. Anything except Lucas' horse that ran early or tried to press tired badly.
I would suggest that the horse to watch out of this race is Lucas's horse. The winner and place horses are slow horses and greatly benefited from the surface. Without a replay of those conditions, I don't think you can cash any tickets on them in the future. This may mean that the Derby winner will come out of New York, Florida or Southern California. Although I would bet Lucas' horse runs huge in the Arkansas Derby off this effort.
