Match the running style of the horses against each other.
Now, will the pace of the race alter the running style of any of the horses?

That means in TODAY'S matchup the #4 is NOT early but is reduced to other than early with the presence of the #8.
He MUST be removed IMMEDIATLEY from consideration. NOW

This is the process of Matching running styles, or matching E, P, & S's in the Match up:
1. Horse A is an Early Runner
2. Horse B is an Early Runner
3. Horse C is a Presser
4. Horse D is a Sustained Runner
Now, which horse will take the lead? If Horse A takes the lead, Horse B is unable to obtain the lead, but will press for the lead.
This would make B an Early Presser.
Horse C is a Late Presser, and Horse D is a Sustained Runner.
The Match Up does alter the running style of the horses, and learning to identify the running styles correctly is crucial in learning the Match Up.
The following chart illustrates the procedure used in matching the running styles and how the Match up can alter these styles.
Early A------ 21.4---- 44.1---- 109---- 1hd ---- 1hd---- 1no---- 1hd
Early B------ 22.1---- 45.2---- 109.4-- 1hd-----1no-----1nk-----1hd
Presser C----22.2---- 44.4---- 109.3-- 2nk----- 2nk----2hd----- 3hd
Sustained D- 22------ 45------ 109.4-- 68 ------54-----42------ 2hd
The following questions should be asked in matching E, P, & S's, to decide how the race matches up.
1. Can Early A go wire o wire, or will Early B force him to run faster tp gain the lead?
2. If Early A is the Lone Early horse in the race, can he extend his energy the distance of the race?
3. Does's Early B's past performance show that he can win as a Presser?
4. Will Horse C or D, best benefit from the Match Up?

c) If you can NOT find a horse described in part "b" look for POSITION 5 and 6 horses at the FIRST call against similar 1st c pace. They MUST show a POWER MOVE (passing MORE than 2 horses between calls) from the 1c-2c or 2c-sc to be considered for the win. They MUST show this. If you find this and a horse described in part "b" is not present THIS is your horse.

1st call - 2nd call - stretch call
5-3-1 -----
NO
5-
5-3 -----
NO
Not a rule, but a strong guideline.
{Possibility} :
Altered running style because of
not matching: pace of race, power move, MOVED out of 1st call position due to better Sustained horses.
So now this horse is either non-contender or is considered a Late-Late horse.
But if there is are better Sustained horses, faster with better powermoves, more likely NON-contender than Late. He will be
behind the better Sustained horses.
Can he
win as a Late horse?
Quote:
There are also Late-Late Runners - Horses that a far behind the Sustained horse and make a late surge to pass all horses in front of them.
