Follow Directions

We had a -36.40 loss
James and I are meeting for breakfast this morning.
We talked a little last night, It was James first non profitable day.
But we both are looking at why we failed

The way to win with the methodology is to follow directions
Our down fall yesterday was trying to bet too mechanically,

I am very impressed with James neatness and desire
to learn and follow directions

We had a losing day but James thought enough to save all his
tickets for me to review.

We won 3 exactas but lost money on them all
We had a 20/1 horse run second at Oaklawn race 6 and we go nothing
because the win horse was 4th on VDC

as Doc writes in the follow ups and manuals
success at the races comes from 3 C's

Consistency
Confidence
Corollaries

Now that James is getting more confidence. I will begin to
move into Doc's prescribed betting outline.

1. Bet 2 horses to win
2. Hide any horse with odds too low for a win bet
3. Bet the top 3 VDC horse that will pay 5/2 or over as the first win bet (after hides)
4.Bet the highest overlay of the remaining VDC horses (after hides)
as the second win bet.
5. Bet w/p on double digit horses
6. Bet exacta's only if the payout on all combinations will pay over $24
7. The exacta should include a counter energy horse not just a top VDC

Think of profit in 20 or higher race cycles

after 3 days James and I are up $56.60 on our voucher

Oaklawn race 6

James and I just reworked race 6
This time we used the above betting guidelines

Here are my lines before hides

Name: Before hides.PNG
Views: 291
Size: 53.0 KB

here is my BLBL after I move/hide the .90 /1 #4 horse to the In The Money contender area

Name: After hides.PNG
Views: 274
Size: 49.0 KB

Now my top 3 VDC horses are 2 8 and 6

So now I make win or w/place bets on these 3 horses based on odds

After hides Top 3 VDC odds

Horse 2 8.5/1 W/P
Horse 8 20.70/1 W/P
Horse 6 17/1

total bets $12 based on
$2win $4 place.

Results The hide horse #4 won
but the 8 placed
$11.80 x 2 = $23.60 or a $11.60 profit

A 3 horse exacta box of the 4 8 and counter energy #2
paid $78.00. Total bet in the race would be $18.00
We would have got a $ 47.60 profit

Good post Bill.

Quick question with regards to:

4.Bet the highest overlay of the remaining VDC horses

No matter what the VDC?

Hi Terry
As Doc writes very often in the follow ups The top 3 VDC horses are to be considered as equals and they are to be separated by odds.

So a horse tiered 3 on VDC is just as good as a horse tiered 1 or 2.
The difference is the odds they will pay.

Here is an example of a race James missed yesterday so I want to help him too.
I have reworked the race using his lines and contenders

Note James did not understand about entries so he did not realize the 1A and 1 are a entry and two different horses, so he rated the 1A even though it was scratched.

His top 3 VDC horses before hides were

Name: Before hides.png
Views: 252
Size: 65.1 KB

Now I have moved the 2 to a ITM only contender

Name: After hides.png
Views: 260
Size: 71.0 KB

Now the top 3 VDC horses are 1A , 4, 6, 5

The odds were

1A 17.30 WP
4 9.10
6 7.90
5 2.60 Win

So in this race James bets should have been a win bet on the 5
as its the lowest odds horse in the top 3 VDC that will pay over
5/2.

For his second win bet he should make a w/p bet on the 1A
because its the best overlay of his top 3 VDC horses.

Here are the results

Bets $9 return = $18.00

James will follow this post with his thoughts and we can check his pacelines
and his betting choices.

We are meeting this morning for breakfast. James is heading to Del Mar

I am headed to Santa Anita for the Santa Anita Derby so James will be on his own.
