Tim,
What is the underlying reason the longer priced uncoupled entry horse wins so often? Chuck |

Hi Chuck. The only thing that I can say is that it was explained to me that in most cases[enter as a rabbit is one exception] the trainer feels either one can win the race no matter what the morning line odds maker or public think.

Darryl - That is an eye opener!
Tim - I'm adding this to my checklist on the first pass through the PPs. Many thanks - Chuck |

If I may add.
Generally, the shorter the field the less likely the longer priced of a trainer's entries will be a threat. Our multiple-entry trainer could be making sure the race fills. Especially if it's a condition which runs like clockwork at your track such as 2 weeks or more often. Look for common ownership. If no common ownership, one being used as a rabbit for the other isn't as likely either. Stakes events, graded or not, I don't think the above applies as well. Remember we're saying generally.

Good point MJ. Folks remember it's an angle and not a handicapping factor. For those with time it might be helpful to keep a list of trainers that score with this angle a good amount of the time they enter 2 horses in a race. Maybe you can pick up a viable pattern.

Los Alamitos Race 5 7/8 Doug O'Neil had two horses entered that were uncoupled. One entry was the 4/5 favorite, the other went off at 18/1. Guess who won and paid 39 dollars.
