I am just curious
I see guys giving 4 horses in every race with their picks.
At the end of the day they tally up what came in. X-wiiners X-exactas X- trifectas X-DD’s My question is are they making money when you have to box 4 horses for these bets? |

Hi Scott. Since I list 4 horses and tally up at the end I'll answer your question. Yes I make money and have consistently since 1998. No I don't box 4 horses. I play wp, dds, exs and p3s. I will see what the payoffs for the dds and exs are and avoid low paying combos. With the pick 3s I key one horse in each leg so my tickets will look like this 1-1234-1234. Depending on the cost to play it will cost either $24 or $48. I can win the bet 1 to 3xs depending on how the key horses do. And when I post my recap I show how many winners were in each of my ranks plus the amount of times the winning exotic bet was in my top 4. That doesn't mean I won all of the results but just showing the power of RDSS.

Tim:
I am a win bettor with an occasional Place, DD and/or Exacta wager. That’s my gig. A few times When I was babysitting for my daughter I was just watching Parx and I used your picks to bet on paper. No actual bets. My bottom lines were not too good. Then I saw your result caps and said to myself what am I doing wrong. But exotic plays are not my thing. WP, DD and Exacta only except on Kentucky Derby day. I had to ask. |

Years ago I used to play 4 horse tri-boxes for $48.
Most of the time when I did hit they paid less than $48. I hit a few nice ones but in the long run I wound up in the red with trifectas. |

Scott over the yrs I have come to discover that dds are easier to hit then the exs. Too many times you will get a nice winner and lose the ex. I have just recently gone back to p3s and been doing ok. I only play 1 track a day so I'm able to be pretty selective in what I play. I keep w &p models for each track I play by surface and dist. It works for me over the course of the yr. There are always days when I can't pick the winner of a 1 horse race and if I did it would get dqed. Thankfully there aren't too many of those.

I should also mention that during my 1st 8 yrs with the group[90-98] I was up and down like a yoyo. I used many of the older programs and honestly I pulled my hair out with adjustments. Thankfully Doc, Jimmy and Glen Connelly were finally able to turn the light bulb on and it has been upward ever since. Now we have RDSS the closest thing to a black box ever created.

Tim, playing 1 track a day is a very smart move.

I have a problem playing multi track when they are in the same time zone. The races come up on each other and I lose track of all the info I use. I admire guys like my friends Mitch and Richie Mathie who can do it and do it well.

Hi Tim,
I'm interested in how you construct your DD tickets? From the 2-25-20 PARX prices, most were in the $20 to $30 range ($2 payout prices) with a couple a little under and a couple good prices. A 3 x 3 would cost $18 and you wouldn't do worse than break even or gain some profit as long as the horse you kick out of your top 4 is not the winner in almost all the DD's. Or, do you do some 1x4, some 2x2, some 2x3, etc., depending on how strong you feel favorites might be in various races? Bill K. |

Hi Swifty. I look for dds [and for that matter exs also] for combos that will double or come close to it my investments. Today most dds were low paying except for a few of the late ones. If I feel 2 of my selections are key horses I play them the most and may use a few saver $1 dd or exs with the next best horse in my opinion. Hopefully I can downgrade the favorite. Most of the time when the favorite looks much the best[not that they can't lose] I pass that race. Basically I determine my bets as the betting unfolds and don't have any pre determined way I'll play a particular set of races.
