River Downs Speed Ratings

Are the speed ratings at River Downs out of whack? While doing AP on 5/11 I noticed some of the RD shippers had what seemed to be abnormally high speed ratings.

I'd be curious to know if anyone else has had any experience with RD and the speed ratings generated there.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

Which date, track, race, horse was that? I checked AP 5/11 and did not find any horses running at AP that day who also showed RD lines in their Past Performances.

That said, perhaps if you look over several past performances where you find RD shippers to AP, where you also see the AP line in the horse's PP, make some notes for as many RD to AP shipping examples as you can and observe the difference in final times for, say, 6, 8 and 8.5 races. This may give you an idea of the relative time difference the same horse runs the same distance on each track. If RD is say, 1 second faster consistently, in the manual entry screen, if a RD horse seems to otherwise come out highly ranked on several readouts, try slowing it down with a -10 (1 second slower) and see if it still remains a contender.

This also said, for 2005, here are the pars TrackMaster used for its speed rating and variants for each track:

AP 6.0 108.3
AP 8.0 133.7
AP 8.5 140.0

RD 6.0 109.1
RD 8.0 136.2
RD 8.5 142.8

RD is slower than AP at these 3 distances, which besides possibly indicating it is inherently a slower surface, probably also is an indicator of the relative calibre of stock running those average times.

Ted

I'm sorry, Ted. I meant CD 5/11. Try races 5, 7 and 9.

Thanks,

Steve
