Great Post

Best races of 2009 All the races win or lost that I shared with
my family and friends here at Pace and Cap
and every race sitting with Brooks at the kitchen table and
mom and brother and sister in law at the table at Monmouth Park

Worst loss Any race after we learned of Howard Sartins passing

Until I finally came to listen to his advice " A loss is followed by a win "
"when you lose a race,So what, there is another win coming right up"

Greatest Moment

Race 5 August 23 2009 Saratoga
The Howard Sartin Jim Bradshaw Memorial Race

Best Race:
2 months back. I was completely pissed at my own horrible play and wagering. Same time I was watching over Barb C a bit while she worked races.
I just came up from supper and called her. She said hi and I asked what was going on.

She said "I am just putting in bets at Woodbine". She said the 1 or 2 was going to win and they were both good odds. I said ok and the tone of her confidence struck me. I had been losing pretty consistent up til then due to really horrible pass/play/wager decisions and made a good sized bet on her 2 horses to win.

We watched/listened to the race and one of her runners hammered the field paying $26.20 (YES I remember exactly!). It was the single best feeling I had racing wise in 2009 and propelled me and my bankroll on an up tilt that remains in good shape now (though honestly the last 2 weeks I am again on the sidelines with real bets. Holidays/other stuff the reason)

Worst beat:
Missing by a nose at the wire with a 62/1 shot at Delaware with my auto pace line selector work (betting real money on over 200 bets in October).

2010 goal:
To be able to better compartmentalize my "Mind's Eye" come racing time and block out ALL other facets of my personal/family life to FOCUS fully on the racing. If I am able to I will win no question and if I can't I will lose. Plain and simple.

Great thread Jess and I wish everyone the inner strength and RESOLVE to achieve your personal goals for 2010

"The memories of our past will be in our future forever"

A special wish for all:

Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life.

I have to agree Rich, that was an extremely heady moment, to watch my mentor bet and win from my picks...

I had a few in 2009 that will always remain as memorable in my mind.

Foremost was my birthday when Ted and Alison took me to Woodbine and I found myself down in the Winner's Circle after the fourth race presenting the trophy to the owner of Mr. Foricos to U., who went on to place in the Queen's Plate. I remember the jockey on him that day was Patrick Husbands. My name was in the programme and up on the board congratulating me. Now how many of us had a birthday like that?

Another great moment was at Saratoga, sitting in the stands with Ted and my new found friends, Bill V., Charlie & Missy B, watching the Alabama Stakes and rooting for the Canadian horses Careless Jewel and Milwakee Appeal, on whom I had placed win and exacta bets out of sentiment. Who was up screaming the loudest when Careless Jewel ran away with the race with a 10 length lead and Milwakee Appeal second. Ted (much to his chagrin when he later heard)had to leave after that so Bill and I played the last race with abandon. Once again we had the winner and exacta for $12.80 (and $45.00 exacta). I remember Bill looking at my ticket and asking me if I always played $2 exactas. I said no only $1. He said'Well, you played $2 this time".

Couple that with, once again, standing in the Winner's Circle the next day, this time with all our Pace and Cap friends who could make it, watching Marianna Sartin present the trophy to the winner of the Howard Sartin Jim Bradshaw Memorial Race.Name: SartinBradshawMemorialRace.jpg

Forgive me for being so lengthy, but as a relative newby and one for whom this was the first year of betting real money, I found the whole year very heady. I've had a lot of help from a lot of people and a lot of ups and downs and have barely kept my head above water.

My goal for 2010 is to keep learning and and winning and maybe finally passing on some of the things I have learned and how I've learned them and applied them to other newbies who come along.

Mike - you see I've finally got it etched on my mind how to post pictures and screen shots thanks to Ted's patience.

My friends, I wish you good health, happiness and skill.

Barb

Barb you did a great job posting the pictures

Thanks for that memory And thank you to Charlie
I took his pick, my pick and your picks and mashed it up to
a very nice exacta. For our newer members That is Bill Lyster
the excellent Matcher in row two with the Okland A's hat on

Ted just showed me the other day Mike. That was my first try, even then he had to fix it. Patience!

I'm just getting back to normal now.
